300b's?

Do we have any kind of consensus on what 300B amp sounds the best? Manley? Sophia? Something else?
well i neverheard the line mag but i saw one and it was cool looking in person to say the least. the guy was kind of a jerk and me and doug left his store. i wanted to hear that amp with the 096's.

the sophias are surreal how nice they sound, but at 8w its hard to find the right speaker for them, i have also heard they had some reliability issues,im hoping they have worked out. they are very affordable too . ive seen the 91-01 pair doug has pictured several times used for under $3k. if i had the right speaker i would have them already. i was close to buying them and a pair of $500 klipsch off amazon just for fun and keeping the snappers.

the manleys are i think 12w and you can run them on set or push pull which if i recall is 24w. i just bought the carys cause they are 15w and i think i can get away with my speakers, but it has been like 8 or 9 years since i heard them. ill let you know when they get here tuesday. at under $2400 including paypal and shipping from cali to nj. it was a no brainer for me right now.
i plan on heaing alot of 300b's over the next several months iwill let you know my thoughts.

Haven't heard them all Mike so I'm not qualified to give an opinion. BUT, from what my dealer tells me that LM219 is pretty special. As long as 24w is enough for you. That said, I would take those Sophia's any day of the week!

ok doug so sophias @8w,what about the 845(i think thats the model#) sophias? add pair of avantgardes @like 100db. do you think a sub is necessary? add that steelhead or audia flight, and the table/cart i already have. and i think my system is done.lmao!!!!

Oh man

I didn't think about having both the 211s and Manleys.

I got the 211s last week. They are definitely very nice sounding amps.

oh boy this is straight up porn in this thread now!!!!! doug you are evil.lol.

jock the 211's are without a doubt some of my favorite tube amps i ever heard. they are a little different than set or 300b's but thats because the have some serious power. its kind of a mix between a 300b and a big powerful push pull tube amp.
my dream is to have the manley 300b's and the cary 211's. i could die happy. congrats on your purchase. if you dont have them yet you will love them!!!!! might be the perfect amp for those d3's

mike that manley is gorgeous. i want a pair now too!!!!

you already have the speakers for those 300b's. ill let you know how my 90db speakers do with 15w soon.

Actually I was flipping a coin whether to get this Line Magnetic or the Manley. And then I was talking to Mike that night and since the Cary 211 FE has the same tube complement 300b into 845s as the Line Magnetic, I was sold on the Cary.

Nice Jock, I don't think you can go wrong with either one. I bet the Cary's will sound great through both your sets of speakers.

im not sure the rated breakin time but in my experience new tube amps just keep getting better for at least 3 months, maybe more if you arent a several hours a day listener.

Steve, did you check out the price on those Sophia 845 amps? 20k/pr :bonkers:

The Uno's that I posted have subs in them which are powered by their own amp. Whether a sub is necessary, well that's up to you and the type of music you listen to. I think Bob would definitely be the man to ask here. You really need to hear them first because horns aren't for everybody. The Avantgardes are a little pricey as well. If you ask me what I would do with 8w amps I would seriously audition the O96's. All reports say that it's an amazing speaker at an amazing price. Yeah 12k isn't lunch money but compared to others out there, well... Of course you need to give them some space too so that figures in.

My amp took a good 300 hours to really settle in. It wasn't all the way done at that point but I'd say a good 85%.

see now ive read twice now that the 096 is doable with 8w but not perfect for them. and sound better with say 12-18w. if i get sophias im gonna have to bring them to living stereo and say hook these up or i will kill you lazy man!!! lmao!!!! but that 518ia is always in the back of my mind. that and 096 perfect?? i dont know cause dude was too lazy to show us!!!! lol

lol, I still use a flip phone, tech incompetent here. My wife said she'll post some system pics for me sometime soon

btw, I own O/96, no way I'd use 8 watts with it
