28B SST2 mono

Trying to rush the kids to bed so I can get started, also pics would have to wait a little don't want to alarm the wife just yet..

My apology Mike..

I feel your pain! :) 4 year old and 7 year old here. Neither listen!

Righto then, I'm listening to Joe Bonamassa on the 2301's, through the Soulution of course & am remembering the great sound from the 28's that i auditioned. The warm sound was there with the grip on lower midrange & bass, did someone say bass. Why yes they do have a tad of control over the lower frequencies that could become quite addictive if you were that way inclined. The speed of the amps too, just wonderful the way Bryston have voiced these, it was really surprising for me to hear the tone & then experience the speed of them, it was one of those "what the hell can't these amps do ?"I did notice in the upper realms, & I'm talking the top of the upper realms in voice before they go falsetto, think Adele here people, yes she does do that, listen to Someone Like You, it wasn't as quite accurate as the 2301's. Another thing i noticed too when all was said & done & the van was on it's way back to the depot with the amps, was that the McIntosh 2301's really got me thinking wow a few times listening to a couple of the same tracks that were used in the demo.
From the 28's I am moving to another demo & that one is of SGR Audio amps, designed by a person I have spoken to many times & purchased gear from in the past. The family comes from a view of less boast & more results & I am also told the amps are a good thing, we shall see. Ahhh, Beth has just started to sing my favourite song, I'd Rather Go Blind, damn this tune gets me going, thank-you Etta, but I am focused here & the end result is I could very easily live with the Bryston 28's, they are a very good amp & deliver a warmer side of neutral sound that got quite close to the 2301's through a Soulution 520 preamp( yeah, well, that preamp aint goin nowhere fast I'll give you the tip), but, my god, the hybrid wins again. McIntosh I salute you for a stellar effort & Bryston I raise the bar for a solid state that deserves mention with company.

Kev

Glad you liked your Bryston audition. They really are great amps as you've just found out. Please keep us posted with your journey.

Great feedback on a great amp. How much longer will you demo them, Kev?

Allen, they went back the same day as it was an audition on the day & not a loan. The next amps are on loan for as I am often in touch with Stuart Ralston of SGR Audio, of which I have very high hopes for. Heres some info on where to next.

Very interesting design. Where did you hear about that?

Allen, Stuart is the distributor of MSB in Oz, not too many moons ago i was the very proud owner of a MSB Diamond Dac IV with all the boxes ticked. To this day it is still the best sounding front end that I have ever had the pleasure of owning. Also I am "very" interested in his amps & speakers! At the mo I also have one of his custom specked racks being finished this week in Melbourne.

Awesome. Please post how you get along with them! Getting the monos I presume since that's what your posted?

I am about to audition these amps in my system next Friday. Will get back to you & let you know how they compare to the 2301's ;)

Hi Sharkmouth, just curious...i used to own Strads...where did you end up on amps? I eventually found great synergy with a Gryphon Antileon which i loved for years til i sold it. The Strads sound wonderful on mid-powered tubes...but boy they really do respond well to power and particularly high quality, high current. Thanks for any update!
