Part 1 of my 2015 rmaf show coverage

Thanks Mark. Well done! I understand your frustration with most digital setups. Owning the Lumin A1 and using it in conjunction with the L1 is simplicity at its best, and it sounds great. It would be nice for you to review one sometime in the future.
And you're right, the VPI Avenger in the Joseph Audio room was audio porn at its finest!

Good job Mark. Loved the Focal/VAC room myself too and the Joseph Audio Pearl 3/Parasound room seems to be on everyone's list.

Did you guys read my comments on the digital room correction demos? I wonder how far out on the proverbial limb I'm going to be with my butt sticking out.

I heard the Deqx and I agree with you, it robbed the music of its natural warmth.

Thanks Mark! At least I have one person in my corner!

Definitely not. I just kept shaking my head in disbelief.

Jock-That's exactly how I felt! The only thing I can think of is that some people who love digital love the sound of clear, bright, white, and light. When you switch in the DRC that I heard at RMAF, you got a heaping helping of clear, white, bright, and light. Like I said, music isn't recorded in a vacuum nor is it normally recorded in a room that is cold and sterile. All rooms/venues that music is recorded in have a sound. The better your system, the more you can understand and hear the space the music was originally recorded in. The two examples of DRC that I heard at RMAF removed that and what was left didn't sound natural to me.

Digital streaming. I get the appeal, but I don't get the sound. The only streamer I've encountered thus far that doesn't suck is the Lumin.

As for show coverage in general - I felt that most of the rooms were bad to meh this year. Don't get me wrong, the people were great!! But the sound? Not so much. There may have been 4 rooms at the show that didn't make me want to punch kittens.

Thank you MEP for concise to the point coverage of your favs--noticeable your mentioning the the new Mark Döhmann turntable--Mark is friend --one of Audios Mr nice Guys he'll be chuffed you took the time to evaluate .

Kudos again on the overall report:)!

Bruce

Thanks Bruce!

Mark,

Thanks for such an enjoyable partial cover of RMAF. It would be great if more people used your format - detailed description of the systems they appreciated more and ignoring those that due to unknown or uninteresting causes sounded poor in their opinions.

Mark, great report! Appreciate the candor on the DRCs!

I loved the Alexias/Dag room. Wished my setup sounded as good as that, I'd still have that combo! Goes to show, it wasn't the gear, it was the gear not integrating into my room.

Nice job, sir!

Interesting, because the consensus at reviewer's sites around the Internet is that this year's show had more good-sounding rooms than usual. Also, quite a few have mentioned how much they liked the Deqx room (and probably about as many have mentioned how much they didn't). Just goes to show how different show impressions can be...
