My main system uses a GaNfet class D amp. It's fast, detailed and musical and I do love it. However I restored a battle scarred Yamaha Ca-2010 that's nearly fifty years old. It really gives it a good run for its money. I'd be happy to live with it.
I've just finished restoring an old Yamaha amp. On my audio analyser it's flat response from 6hz all the way to 45khz. Completely useless of course but it does at least mean that you can be sure that the bit you can hear is a flat response from top to bottom.
Background: A couple of years ago I took early retirement to look after my dad. I was a support engineer from British Telecom and couldn't juggle being on call 24/7 with trying to look after him as he slowly failed.
After he died, I then had time to do what I wanted and I realised I couldn't...
At the moment the oldest component in my vintage is a Yamaha ca-400. With caps dated 1974. This is an ever rotating thing though as I'm usually shaking a vintage amp down prior to selling. When not selling, I'm using my dad's old Sugden A21 series 2 dated 1968. Still a shockingly nice amp
I have the Harmony too. Using a Rose RS250 as the source. Initially I was disappointed as I was using the coax connection. When I finally switched to USB, the difference was huge. I'm now wondering if a streamer with I2S is worth the upgrade.
I must admit I've never heard any of the new stuff. All my work has been on 1970s kit. I have a ca-2010 that was in a sorry state. It still looks battered but my god it sounds good now.
Hi All,
Thanks for having me in here. I've been a bit of an audio nut since I was given me dad's Sugden A21 whe I was young (I still have it). I have two systems. A modern system consisting of a Rose Streamer, LAiv Harmony DAC and Rose GaNfet class D amp into Neat Acoustics Iota Xplorer...
