Gryphon Diablo 300 Review

I like the look of the Diablo 300. What are its competitors?

T+A PA3100HV, Mark Levinson 585, Ayre AX-5 Twenty and Pass INT-250 come to mind in "similar" price ranges.

I had the RI-100 in the store and couldn't get rid of it fast enough. It's certainly no SIA-025.

I thought the comparison concerned the Diablo 300 not the SIA-025. Do you think the Diablo 300 is in the same league as the SIA-025? If so, then the T+A PA3100HV, Mark Levinson 585, Ayre AX-5 Twenty and Pass INT-250 are also in that league. Interesting.

I don't think the RI-100 is in the league of any of those others, including the SIA-025.

When I had it in the store, I played it for a few weeks and it was not great. Definitely no SIA-025 or Diablo 300.

+1. I had the RI-100 but sold it after a few months. Apart from sonics, I was also uncomfortable with the graduation of its volume control. At some level, it was 1.5 db per step.

Any thoughts on how the Diablo 300 compares to the McIntosh MA9000, and which might be a better match for Magico S3 mk2s? The MA9000 is considerably cheaper than the Diablo 300 (about half the cost if the DAC option is included in the Diablo) and I wonder whether it could be a better value for money spend. I am not familiar with either - my Gryphon dealer has sole out of the Diablo and is waiting for a new demo and stock and I have only just come across this particular McIntosh model.

I got my Diablo 300 on Friday and initial impressions are that it's a great piece. Unfortunately, I only got to listen for about 12 hours before I had to leave town, but WOW! I can see why the reviews are glowing.

The soundstage is huge, it has sweetness and is ballsey at the same time. After being on for 10 hours, it started to have real finesse. I get home on Friday, so I'll be able to report back more then.

Anybody looking for an amp anywhere close to this price range and up - $16,000 US - really needs to give it a listen.

Received mine the same day as Jock and my comments similar. From another thread:

"Just installed Gryphon Diablo 300 to drive my Magico S3 Mk IIs. Out of the box - very fine piece.

"I listen predominately to classical with some jazz. Amp replaced an old Mark Levinson, so I have no basis for comparison with Vitus. Impressions: dynamic, detailed but quite musical, non-fatiguing, excellent bass, control. And I think excellent synergy with the Magicos. Impressive design (even wife likes, probably a first for an audio component!).

"This stuff is not inexpensive, but for me the value is there - happy camper."

When was this model released? And any comparison/opinions to the Pass 250 INT other than the phono and dac options of the Diablo 300?[/FONT]
