    Pictures of your room

I’m pretty sure we had a thread on this, but thought it would be fun to update it. Post pics of your current set up.

    It’ll be fun to see.

Mike, your room is just beautiful.

Love the fact that you kept keeping on with finding a solution (many solutions most likely) to the mansard roof ceiling profile. I know you struggled for a long time to find the right mix of gear and treatments, and this latest example shows just how much dedication you have had. Congrats. Again, simply a beautiful room and setup!!

Thanks Mike. Lots of measurements and different treatments over the years. The giant bass traps are made by Resolution Acoustics. They handle bass waves lower than any others on the market and cover a broad spectrum. The rest are Vicoustics.

You would be referring to what one of the women on my wife's tennis team upon seeing them said. Is this some kind of 50 Shades of Grey thing going on here?

You are correct they are for dispersion. They are plastic martini glasses without the bottom. 3 dots of gel supper glue hold them to a foam panel. About as low tech as you get but work well.

My room, by choice leans very heavy toward the absorption side. I have 2 " of Ownes Corning 705 in all of the green panels you see on the walls. Behind that is 1 1/2" airspace then 6 " of fiberglass. All 4 corners have bass traps along with the upper corner around the room is a bass trap also.

The EE I'm building the speakers for built them for his living room and brought a couple of them over for me to try. I never had an interest in adding dispersion to me room until after playing with them for a few months. I am able to move them anywhere in the room as they hang from the top of the large absorption panels.

After trying them for a while I decided to build a few more and add them to the room. Like with anything some placement didn't sound good, others made a noticeable though not earth shacking improvement is spaciousness. Enough though that they will be staying.

    Thanks for your kind comments.

Mike, though our rooms look nothing alike, your thread of the build is what inspired me to where I ended up with my room.

    Thanks for sharing the process.

You are obviously well aquatinted with him, Jonathan Tinn is one of the nicest audio people I have ever had contact with.

Here is my friend’s room. Please imagine without the blue cord. He just moved in into his new house and the room is still ‘in progress’.

Huge room indeed. The acoustic fixtures come from a previous Niles-designed music room. So his pick of orientation is likely a continuation of his previous room.

Those are Avantgarde Trios. Basis (vacuum) TT, Trinnov preamp. He is now working on getting the speakers tuned with Trinnov’s room correction features

it's a mistake to think that way (not that you were being completely serious).

being all-in and super serious about one's system also requires decisions that are somewhat one-way. meaning to a degree there is no going back. even if you want to, so many assets are irrevocable. building a special room is a huge commitment and sunk costs are considerable.

having a less serious room and system keeps one's options open and there are times (admittedly not very many times) i'd love to trade places and be back there. my room/system is a life commitment.

and many can choose to spend heavily but simply don't do it. it's just not their priority.

we all like pretty things, and i appreciate the nice things people say about my system (and the efforts i've made), but it's not for everyone, nor should it be, and we all should appreciate where we are and the music. i've heard some very enjoyable relatively casual systems and thought i could be absolutely thrilled with this.

    Re: Pictures of your room

thanks mike! your are right in that i was not being totally serious... as at this point, i pretty much have exactly the system i want. we choose to keep our system in the main living room. we have, therefore, worked long and hard to get great sound from a minimalist, small-footprint, low-box-count system.

currently, it is only a SET integrated amp, speakers and a DAC -- the transport on the floor is only temporary and being relocated to the basement server room. also, we are now in the second year of a discussion on what rack would be a good sonic and aesthetic fit. this has been greatly complicated by wanting to add a turntable + phono-pre, yet still have an unobtrusive and minimalist rig.

while there are two other rooms in the house that would accommodate a much more expansive system, i just really like listening in a room where i can also enjoy the old photographs, art and the general old-world gestalt -- not really much in there that post-dates the 1920s. and, late at night with the right music and after a beverage or two, you actually do travel back in time.

The cover for the center channel is not on. Took it off a few weeks ago and have not put it back on (you can actually see the cover in the picture of the rear laying next to a wall).
