Today I successfully set up the Soulution Link System for my Soulution 520 Preamp and 501 Mono Amps. The Link System enables you to power on or off the 520 Preamp and both 501 Mono Amps by pressing the power button on the Preamp Remote Control.
Here's what you need, two lengths of Cat-5 or Cat-6 Ethernet Cables. I purchased two 8 foot Insignia Cat-6 Ethernet Cables from Best Buy. Each Ethernet Cable is connected at one end to a Link Jack on the back of the Soulution 520 Preamp and on the other end to a Link Jack on the back of the 501 Mono Amps. But here's the tricky part, on the back of the 520 Preamp, one Link Jack is labeled "Input" and one Link Jack is labeled "Output". Just ignore this labeling.
I connected the first Ethernet Cable from the left most Link Jack on the 520 Preamp to the left 501 Mono Amp and the second Ethernet Cable from the right most Link Jack on the 520 Preamp to the right 501 Mono Amp. Once these connections are made, turn the main power switches on the back of the 520 Preamp and the 501 Mono Amps to the "On" position. Next, place the 501 dial on the front of each 501 Mono Amp to the "Auto" position. Now use your remote to power on the 520 Preamp. At the same time, each 501 Mono Amp will turn on. Lastly, use your remote to power off the 520 Preamp. At the same time, each 501 Mono Amp will turn off.
All in all, pretty simple, once someone explained to me that both Link Jacks on the back of the 520 Preamp really act as outputs.
Best,
Ken
