Interested in hearing others' journey with their cable upgrades and how you landed where you are.

I upgraded along the way while changing other equipment. It was actually power cord evaluations that landed me with standardizing on Audience cables. I switched from Shunyata PLCs and power cords to the Audience line. Now have 90 percent of the system with Au24SE interconnects and "e" and "au24e" power cords into a AR12TSS power line conditioner. I wrote about my impressions of it over on A'gon. One of the few times when I put something in my system that I knew I had to have and didn't want to continue without. I have one tonearm cable that is the Tara Labs Zero, which has a great grounding scheme that has served me well, and I have a Harmonic Tech power cord specialized for my phono preamp, and a Harmonic Tech set of speaker cables. The Audience house sound (or lack of signature sound) is good to my ears. I'm sure there are brands that would be as good or maybe even better, but I see some interconnect prices and wonder just how much precious metal is being used. I used to run Cardas Golden Reference and a lot of Harmonic Tech cables. Audience brought more air, transient speed, and quieter noise floor. I've heard great things about Synergistic Research, especially their new line....

Thanks for sharing. I need to make some changes on cables, conditioner and power cords. It's not glamorous as a new piece of gear but necessary.

Hey Darren,

FWIW, I'm beginning that journey myself. I just purchased a Zitron Anaconda PC. If that goes well, which I suspect it would given the rave reviews, formal and informal, I was going to try their ICs and SPs.

Interesting that you started with Shunyata and now on Audience. What change did you hear making the switch?

Hey Allen, on the power cord side, I felt like the Shunyata (and some other brands) in my system did lower the noise floor, but also subtracted some energy and liveliness and transient speed. Using the Audience, it sounded to my ears that the black background, lack of grunge, etc was introduced but dynamics were actually enhanced versus reduced.

Thx for the quick reply, Darren.

Hmm, I have to listen for that then. Older Rowland amps like mine have a nice liquid sound, but it's certainly not the fastest amp around (it ain't no Spectral, per se). I don't want to make it any slower, LOL!

Thx for the heads up. Hopefully the newer Zitron PCs don't exhibit this. If it does, Marketplace it goes!

What else have you tired before settling on Audience. Like you, I have Cardas golden cross (can't find it!) and some Transparent Music Link ICs. The WW Eclipse 7 ICs I'm using sound similar to the much olderTransparent, albeit a little less bass. It's still burning in, so we'll see how that goes.

Cables can be a journey both good and bad. It's a personal preference for what works in your system and sounds good to you. I've used everything from A-Z it seems like. I settled on Kimber Select years ago and upgraded when a new design was introduced by them. There's now a full loom of Kimber Select ic's, speaker cable & jumpers as well as Kimber Palladian power cords. The same applies to the line conditioners I've tried and finally settled on Sound Applications designed by Jim Weil. I'm happy with the sound of my system but that being said my home has gone through renovation project and is currently going through the decorating process so the system as I know it now will probably change.

I've gone with AQ, WW, and Nordost throughout my system, but as of current I found works for me is Audience(HT) and Acoustic Zen loom(2ch)..

Thx for the reply, Dewey. Cables are so system specific. Glad you found something that worked really well in your system. It really is trial and error with these things.

Well, my Shunyata Zitron Anaconda just came in. It is huge and nicely packaged. But I'm burning in some WW Eclipse 7 SPs, ~120 hrs thus far. Think I'll wait until the weekend to let the SPs burn in a little more, ~220 hours, before I put on the Shunyata. I really want to hear the change the Shunyata makes on the system.

Ain't that the truth Allen.. Cables are so specific to each and individuals, it's just a matter of personal taste there's no right or wrong :)

For me a good system deserves good cables, there are the believer camp and the non believer camp i don't mind the non believers but i would appreciate that they also honor the believers after all it's our money whe should have the right to spend it any way whe wish, this is the cabling in my system.
