New Vandersteen Model 7 Mk. 2

Another way to look at this is what would you expect from a $70,000 car? Look at the engineering in a $70,000 vehicle vs $70,000 speakers.

That's a great point! Interesting though when I make the same comparison between very expensive cars and an equivalently priced house with regards to materials, labor, and overall complexity. Think about all of the parts that go into making a $70k car of your choice.

Mark, when i say 10k i'm thinking of the many popular panel speakers on the market like Maggies, ML, Quad etc. imo, you can't have your cake and eat it too under 10 grand w/ panel speakers - something is always missing.

Gotcha and I agree.

I like the V7s. Indeed, have never heard them played loud.

As for price, everything in high end audio continues to go up. Some more reasonable than others.

You probably mean the 5C, unless that is now the only Model 5 sold?

The current Model 5 speaker in the lineup is the : Model 5A Carbon (not 5C)

I'm not a fan of any high-end speaker that can't be played loudly because the drivers start farting and the sound literally falls apart.
Agreed, but this depends on the intent of the system. Some are not built to play at "realistic" levels.

I do admit to uncorking the system from time to time (probably more than I should!). As such, I expect it to keep its composure when doing so whether it's Pink Floyd's The Wall or Tchaikovsky! And, yes I’ve heard some Vandersteen speakers do incredibly dynamic things that defy many unfounded "won't play loud" rumors.

That's funny. I've heard the Vandy's in many different environments but just never put 1+1 together. Always was disappointed with the sound in big rooms but somehow always blamed the issues on the setup.
You still can do that, Myles. You may just have to trust me on this one for now.

Where Vandersteen screwed up was not charging $70k+ for his top speaker 15 years ago. He could be easily asking over $100k now. :)

Duh! :)

His speakers don't look like 100k speakers imo. I will say I have always admired Richard for allowing upgrades to prior version owners- if you already own the 7s, you likely are paying 10k for the upgrade.

I prefer to use Transparent Opus Magnum- a pair of speaker cables or an M3? Lol.

When I heard the 7 mk1 years ago I liked what I heard a lot. Did not hear them cranked up though. They are very transparent and natural which I appreciate. With the right amps I would imagine they should be able to play loud well?

Please let us know your impressions Dre.

The Vandy 7s always sounded very nice with the Aesthetix Atlas amps powering them.

+1 I've heard the Vandy 7's many times paired with the Aesthetix Atlas Signature Monos and the sound was sublime. The positives were a huge soundstage, holographic and lifelike imaging and ultra smooth treble. The one negative was the powered subwoofer, which when turned up too high, sounds a lot like home theater. Richard sets the bass boost way too high for my taste. When backed down to a reasonable level, the bass is much more palpable and believable.

I agree. They pair well with TOTL Ayre gear also. Did not care for them with a full ARC system though.

While I've only heard the 7s paired with ARC at shows, bigger room, etc., the sound was always a little lack luster. Just no get up and go.
