Has anyone had the opportunity to listen to the newest Model 7s? If so, how would you compare it to the older version with the single subwoofer?

I am on the fence about having mine upgraded.

I am on the fence about having mine upgraded.

I have not listened to them yet. I own the previous version, the Model 7 Mk2, which have dual 12 inch opposing slot-loaded subwoofers in each speaker. The Model 7 XTRM has dual 11 inch side-firing subwoofers in each speaker, improved subwoofer equalization and the integrated granite bases.

Actually, my original model has the same dual 12" subwoofers. As you said, the XTRM has 2 11" side-firing subwoofers.

I know the XTRM now includes the granite bases which I already have on mine. I found those to be a significant change which added a lot of stability to the cabinet.

I guess there aren't a lot of people who have heard both, other than some dealers like John Rutan.

Since you already have the integrated granite bases, I expect that would cut down the cost of the upgrade quite a bit.

Good point. The upgrade costs between $25k and $40k depending on the model one owns. I would need both the MKII midrange and the 11” woofers. Sounds like $30k to me…

Unfortunately Vandersteen appears to have increased the price of the upgrade effective 1/1/22 to the range of $28,430 to $43,050.

That's what John told me last week. I was just rounding the cost. Either way it is an expensive upgrade.
