Your Sonos will self destruct in 3...21..

I got this notice from Sonos about a month ago. I have been on the fence about getting new Sonos gear and this convinced me to sell what I already have.
Makes me think twice about any connected products that can be deprecated by their manufacturers.
Sonos have seriously lost their way.

My guess is their time management and bean counters found this their best way to deal with it? It also might be a acceptable tax write off. Takes too much time to clean, test and sell with perhaps a 30 day guarantee.

Im fine with it. They could do what PS Audio does and simply inspect the units and resell as new. I am not ok with that.

I just bought a Sonos system for our bathroom last fall. Sounds great! I was really surprised how good it sounded for it's size. The speakers are just the right size for our bathroom sink. I stream Qobuz and Tidal through the system. Perfect for my application.

That's really disappointing to read about. As a manufacturer, I get the financial draw to want to pull used pieces out of the market (though I'm not a fan of the practice, as it only punishes consumers), but also as a manufacturer, I know how important it is that we do our parts in reducing the amount of waste we create in our companies. I hope this doesn't become a trend for others to follow.

A somewhat similar situation...it just kills me to take outdated but perfectly functional electronic items to the dump. Seems like such an incredible waste. But there's no where else to take them where I live in the country. I wish there was some kind of electronics recycling nearby.

This is underscored by the fact that there is nothing wrong with the products they are trying to get you to replace. They function as new. I expect Sonos’ next move will be to put them on limited or no support as they have done with most of their first gen hardware.

Whats the problem . If you think its worth more to sell than trade in, sell it. Its also environmental to throw it out than resources on packaging and shipping so Sonos can throw it out.
