Anyone have one of these dacs? It looks really good and reviews are great after break in.

The Yggy is the affordable darling of the digital world. Always brought up in comparisons. I've never tried it because I always hear brighter than on various internet comparisons and my ears don't like bright anymore.

On a side note I'm using HQPlayer's closed-form filter and really liking it.

Joe this is perhaps the most complete compassion I've seen on the Yiggy vs others dacs. http://www.superbestaudiofriends.org/index.php?threads/life-after-yggdrasil-watering-the-ash.4036/

Awesome, I'll take a look. Thank you.

I've got one Joe, using it on my headphone rig, so far so good

Great. I may take the plunge in Dec.. One of my brothers just ordered a Schiit preamp for another system. I am curious to see what he thinks.

You might also want to take a look at the Aqua La Voce S2 before jumping in the Yggiy pool. No brightness and also modular so can be upgraded too at the same price point.

Thank you Jack. I’ll check that one out too.

Would you guys who have them consider them neutral? Cool, or warm? I tend to love less neutral and warmer dacs and gear in general.

I would say neutral, to my ears. And detailed.
Right away, even with it cold and unbroken-in, I noticed subtle sounds I had not heard before on music I was otherwise familiar with.

Thank you!

If you are looking to try out a ladder dac then another option besides the Schitt and Aqua is the Border Patrol DAC built in Maryland which also features tube rectification. It has been very well received. Plus it is a bit cheaper than the other two.

The guys at LTA were also selling the DAC for Gary in addition to it being sold ID so you could talk to them. Also if I remember correctly Jock ordered one but I don't remember him saying anything about it if he got it.

I think Jock really likes it but he’s never in one spot long enough.

I do like the Border Patrol. I was also thinking about another Musical Paradise.

Well you probably can't go wrong either way and one of them you know you like, but I would stay with the AKM chips the input buffer was designed for.
Listening to mine while I type with stream from the Lumin. Either tube unit would be a change up from the DS which has new firmware coming soon.

I loved my Yggdrasil which I had in my system for 5 years or so after replacing my PS Audio PWD2. It’s a very neutral and detailed dac which only got bettered by the Chord Dave at 5x the price after several other contenders were shot down.
The only downside is an extremely long burn in and you HAVE to keep powered up all the time. If you turn it off it takes a day or 2 to get back sounding good.

Joe, you mentioned liking the DAC to lean warm, have you heard Chord, like the Hugo? I haven't heard it personally, a friend tried one when he was looking and mentioned it being warm to lush sounding.

I did hear an old version of the Lampi Amber I thought was really good, at that time they were selling around $2500, not sure of current price. It had Lampi family resemblance, full bodied with detail and dynamics. I'd say it leaned warm but not overly so.

Lampi is still showing the Amber II as "starting" at 1800 Euros but since Gopher lives in NYC also it's easy to check with him. Would be interesting to hear the Amber II, the Border Patrol and the MP all in the same system. I remember that in a "shootout" on AC the Lampi to many beat the MP but that was a full blown Atlantic at almost five times the price. There has been a whole lot more chatter about the Border Patrol and the MP than the Amber II over the last year. Of the three the MP is much more easily tailored to taste with all of the input and rectifier tube choices than the other two. I have tried well over a dozen different combinations with the MP until I settled on the combination that suited me.

I often think about LampizatOr again. They are pretty special sounding. I’ve not heard any Chord dacs and would love to. I’d like MQA but it’s not 100% necessary because I’m thinking about hanging onto the PS Audio dac. I should probably wait until the new firmware is out to see how it sounds.

I appreciate all the recommendations. There seems to be a lot more great dacs now.
