Yggdrasil Multibit DAC with Closed-Form Filter?

A friend of mine had a Yggy and got rid of it rather quickly. Too bright and clinical for him. He moved on to a PS Audio DSD, then an Metrome Hex before settling in on an Aqua La Voce which he loves and says is very analog sounding.

I think that the Yggy is a polarizing DAC if you read all the user reviews.

The Hugo Chord and my Luxman DA-06 are warmer sounding and my Luxman is still rated a Stereophile Class A plus DAC.

If you are running HQ player and can do DSD 512 then take a look at the T&A DAC8. Very detailed and true to life textures at DSD512.

Joe.......Interesting that you would post about the Schiit Yggdrasil DAC at the same time I have been researching that same DAC. Based on all the reviews I have read, the Yggy is an exceptional DAC that goes head to head with many DACs at five times or more its price. Although you get the occasional comment from someone who thinks it is bright or whatever, the bulk of information available about the Yggy does not support that description of its performance. The Schiit Yggdrasil was recognized as a Class A DAC in the April 2017 Stereophile magazine. Keep in mind that you can return the Yggy during the 15 day trial period. That should be enough time to determine if it is your cup of tea, although the break-in time for the Yggy has been reported as taking several hundred hours for it to achieve its permanent voice. I think Robert Harley summed the Yggy up quite well when he wrote, "The Yggi is not just a tremendous value in today's DACs, it's one of the greatest bargains in the history of high-end audio." That is quite an endorsement from a seasoned and highly respected audio reviewer.

My interest in the Schiit Yggdrasil DAC is to replace a Wyred 4 Sound DAC2 that I used with my Sennheiser HD800 headphone and Sennheiser HDVA 600 headphone amplifier in my office. I re-purposed it to the living room sound system for use with my Aurender N100H music server. I believe the Yggy can deliver considerably better performance in the living room system, then I can return the W4S DAC2 to the the office headphone rig.

I am doing my usual procrastinating, but I find myself leaning heavily toward the Schiit Yggdrasil DAC. The price to performance ratio makes this DAC extremely attractive. Wish it were available in black.

Thanks Dan.

I think in the context of the right system, it could be killer. Balance is key. I think with the Yiggy (based on all my research) in a slightly softer/sweeter system it could really shine for not a lot of money.

My brother receives his Schiit preamp today, I think. I am eager for his thoughts and might do a trial if he likes the preamp.
