Just got my Recovery unit. On a quick listen, and quick a-b with it and with it out of the system.... and probably needs a solid 50 hours to break in... but anyway....

A little tighter more controlled bass, definitely more open and maybe a bit more forward sound stage. I was just hearing a stand up base string vibrate that I never heard before for example… Holly Cole’s voice almost has a little bit of natural grit (very very smooth though, never heard this before) and very solid more defined staging.

Listening to The Animals DSD.... much smoother, much more vinyl sounding. There were many times through the album that I would hear a distortion, like I remember dirt on vinyl album sounding; is this what is referred to as Jitter? Playing through the Recovery there have been almost none... much more enjoyable!!!

The Recovery seems to make USB sources much more vinyl sounding if that makes sense. With this in place and a good DSD recording I do believe a top end analog source has met it's match.

Looks like they gave you special priority as a local customer; I've had one on order prepaid for a month now and it still hasn't shipped. :(

Randy what the heck is the 'Refresher" ??

It's a USB reclocker, just goes between your USB source and your DAC. They are the same company who makes the very highly rated Remedy. This is about the same thing only for the USB path.

Follow the link above, it has a pretty good explanation. W4S makes some pretty darn good equipment and some very cutting edge digital products. E.J. Sarmento is becoming quite the renowned engineer in the audio world. 6 Moons and The Absolute Sound praise him and W4S quite often!

I knew W4S were mailing out the "Recovery USB Reclocker "unit ($199.00), but didn't know about "The Refresher", you sure that wasn't a typo.

Funny thing is Wyred 4 Sound caught my typo and pointed it out to me. :) I fixed it of course (with tail between my legs)... BTW EJ seems like a really nice guy. I had a very good conversation with him at their factory when i was picking up my Recovery unit... :D

I have got to say, the more I listen the better the Recovery gets. First of all, DSD files seem to smooth out and open up very nicely. However what it does to PCM files, in my system, is just staggering. I would not have thought it possible.

Not only adding a depth and sound stag improvements that I would not have believed prior, but it seems to have almost eliminated the jitter effects that I noticed more on PCM files.

Surprised, yes I am, then again Wyred 4 Sound has gotten my attention in a big way!

I feel confident that the manufacturer of my DAC has already designed it to handle the incoming signal from my computer. All electronic components create some level of noise and distortion, some audible, some not. To counter this I have invested in a minimum number of components with high quality power supplies, installed dedicated outlets, and purchased high quality power cords and interconnects. It would be counter productive to add an unnecessary low-cost item like the Wyred 4 Sound Recovery which includes an inexpensive UBS cable wall wart.

The bottom line is that units like the Recovery are not for everyone. I also have invested in a power conditioner, power cables, interconnects, etc., and all of the equipment I have chosen have the reputation of using quality internal components. I cannot judge these against what you are using. I was skeptical as to how a unit such as this would actually help, but W4S reputation, history, and ratings are impeccable. Their components consistently get excellent ratings and awards. They have other units similar to the Recovery, the extremely highly rated Remedy for example.

I was actually surprised how effective the Recovery unit is. For someone listening to a majority of my music through USB sources the unit has dramatically improved the enjoyment of my system.

Honestly, I wish it did not have a "wall wart", but if this provides small amount of power required by the unit there is little reason to add expense of something more exotic. I did have an extra power output on the front of my conditioner that can accommodate the "wart" so at least the power is being provided through the conditioner.

Randy, if you believe that your W4S and Teac system benefit from the W4S Recovery, then good. My Weiss Engineering system would not.

And this is completely ok. As I said, something like the Recovery is not for everyone. :)

I certainly have a fondness for Switzerland made equipment (ala my Goldmund amp). I wish I could afford more :D...

And I agree in that if I had a $10k-$20k DAC I would also expect it to have the functionality of the Recovery built in.

Even though my Teac receives plenty of trickle down technology from Esoteric, it still gains big improvements from this stellar W4S product.

This sounds very interesting as I am using a Wireworld Starlight 7 USB cable between my Bryston BDP-2 and Calyx Femto DAC. The Calyx Femto has very good clocks, would they not reclock the signal from the BDP-2?

My Teac in another system is connected to a Faroudja DV-1000 DVD player that does not have a USB output so I can't use it there. Using the coax input the Teac does sound more open and detailed than the DAC's in the old Faroudja DV-1000. The Teac DAC's are very good imho. I am going to have to explore this Recovery unit some more. Just when I thought I was done upgrading.:)

I believe the Wyred 4 Sound Remedy Reclocker is designed to work on either coax or optical signals. It has received almost universal praise for what it is able to accomplish. The Recovery is designed to do similar things to a USB signal.

Okay, that makes me even more curious. And they have an introductory price of $199 right now, closer to $300 Canadian with our crummy exchange rate. But you've got me thinking, thanks for the info.

In checking out the inputs, you are right as I find that the Recovery unit only offers USB (at an introductory price of $199) and the Remedy unit offers Toslink optical, coax and bnc outputs but no USB (at a sale price of $399). Hmm.

I had been waiting for a USB reclocker from W4S. I had read much about the Remedy but my sound source is almost exclusively USB from the Surface. I had read a lot of good things about Wyred 4 Sound. Upon investigating I was surprised to find out that the are locate just around the corner from me.

I spoke with the owner and founder E.J. Sarmento at their office when I was picking up my Recovery. I now understand how the company has obtained their reputation and the tremendous amount of rewards they have gotten in the years since he left Cullen Circuits in 2007. He developed and produced a lot for PS Audio among others back then, and designed and developed all W4S offerings. Hand made here in California and backed by 5 year warranties!

They produce some very fine products, for example the pre-amp that I bought from EJ and crew is the best sounding I have ever heard. Although I do not have one of their DACs (yet) I do know that The Absolute Sound awarded one a 2016 Editor's Choice Award. I may be looking to get one of these or their headphone amplifier when it is released shortly as my next purchase....
