Wyred 4 Sound Statement Amp

Agreed... love the pre. Sound quality is exceptional. That is why I am more interested in seeing the new amplifier!

I would suspect the Statement preamp is a fully maxed out STP-SE in the new case to match the amp. As far as I am concerned the STP-SE is and has been his statement piece since it was first released. EJ has had some other really good products since then, but nothing to the level of the STP-SE. It's one of those pieces along with my Music Reference RM-10 that I would not consider selling whether I am using it or not. One of the hurdles EJ is going to have to overcome is that fact that for a decade he has sold products that were solidly engineered, well built , utilitarian in looks and sounded good for under $2500. His competition in that market was not as large or generally as good. When you jump into the market at double that price the competition is greater and the audience is different. I hope the Statement gear is as good as EJ thinks it is and is successful. If the amp is that good I will probably try one at some point. I fully expect to see a new DAC with the ESS 9038 chipset in the Statement casework by the end of the year.

I agree on all accounts Jack... I am actually a little surprised at the price point (if it ends up being that price point). It opens up a ton more competition. If the amplifier is as good as EJ thinks then fantastic! But it is more than double the price (almost triple).... It looks like the Statement that is being shown is a equivalent level to the ST-500mkII which starts at $1499 and has optional upgraded binding posts and wiring for $250. At $5k, that is too big of a jump, unless it really is that much better.... I was thinking more along what I had originally heard, the $3500 range. Even that is a big jump, twice the price versus three times the price.

I also agree in that the Statement pre-amp will probably be virtually the same as the STP-SE in the new wrapping and glitz to match the amplifier. I am curious as to how they are going to do the volume control because the method used in the STP-SE is not only unique but very much superior. So if they go straight touch panel then I am curious how that amazing volume system will change.

Randy

I suspect the volume control implementation inside the pre will be the same, just look different on the outside. Another company using a similar volume control scheme is Nuprime, also based in the same area of California. The two companies started about the same time except Nuprime was known as NuForce at the time. I have one of their DAC/Preamp units and the volume control implementation is very similar. Having been released 6 years later the Nuprime variation may be a little smoother. It would really be hard for EJ to top the sound and functionality of the STP-SE.

Has anyone had their STP-SE upgraded by W4S or Underwood HiFi. Might do mine this year.

I have considered it. Just quite expensive for me right now... Plus, honestly, I think I would prefer to stick with the blue lettered display. Everything else has blue displays in my system :)....

I just read that the Statement amplifier that is being shown at Newport is in fact 750 WPC :exciting:...

So Joe, this amp and your JBL's, you could pretty much power a concert hall.... :D

I'd love to hear it for sure. I bet it's really nice.

"We've been struggling with this room since we got in the door," I was told about an ostensibly square, standard-size hotel room that for some reason had a chunk of one of its corners truncated at a 45-degree angle. To cope with the havoc that little hiccup played with their sound, the Wyred 4 Sound folks oriented their speakers along the long wall, and opted for nearfield listening.

With all the problems, I would have expected disappointing sound. Happily, the opposite was the case. Wyred 4 Sound's forthcoming Roon-ready music server ($ TBD), forthcoming Statement amp (approx. $5000), and SST Thoebe II preamplifier with optional DAC and phono stage ($4250), paired with KEF Reference 3 Foundry Edition speakers ($13,000/pair), exhibited a really nice midrange and some good layering on Bill Frisell's "Pipeline." Switching gears to a high-res period-instrument recording of a Bach cantata, conducted by Masaaki Suzuki, the sound was lovely, the air laudable, and the tenor voice reproduced very well. This was a most enjoyable system, with components whose prices are not out of the reach for someone with a decent job and a penchant for saving pennies.

sorry I cant share everyone's enthusiasm I gave this system a 2nd chance later in the day and no better that before. the Zep files sounded 'grainy' (and too loud for my tastes). Kevin Deal was running almost the same speaker with Prima Luna gear and the SQ was night and day better.

Rob I agree Kevin definitely had the better setup and sound with the KEFs and Prima Luna but I didn't walk away grimacing from the W4S room either like I did a few others. Maybe it was the material being played when we were in the room.

Calm down , it's Serinus after all ... :)

I wonder if KEFs are a good match with W4S Amps ? Over the years I have been to the CA audio show, I have found the W4S room to be very bright and grainy. It could also be the room but I think the KEFs are itself on the brighter side of the spectrum.
