Just picked the STP-SE up today. Took a while to get everything all situated in the rack so have not given any real serious listening to yet. It is also stated in manual that there is a 200 hour break in period.

With a real quick listen I could definitely see that it is very tight hold of the bass, and very open sound stage. I love the volume control and played around re-labeling the input.

The quality level is very high. Very solid and well made. Absolutely top notch connectors and feel to everything. Even the XLR inputs have their own locking mechanism (which I have not seen on other manufactures).

Now that I have about 100 hours on it I can say that this is the best sounding pre-amp I have ever heard.... and I still have another 100 hours of breaking in to go. What a value.... I think 6moons was right comparing against other pre-amps 6-8 times it's price!

I totally agree with you Randy. That pre is a real score. Top notch, it really gets out of the way of the music, super-value. Congrats, I think you got a keeper there.

Thank you... I agree... I am totally impressed by Wyred 4 Sound... talk about a company doing things right!!!

I checked out a review and it sounds impressive. Does it have any gain, or is it just a buffer?

I am sure I will never get to the point where I would go out of the passive side.

I could not say one way or another to that. I can say that it seems to match very nicely with the Goldmund Job amplifier!

I was considering the Job Pre2... however there were a few things that I preferred on the Wyred 4 Sound. More inputs and outputs makes the pre-amp more future proof... The Job did not have XLR inputs which is something that I was looking for. I also prefer having a display on the front of the unit, and very important is the volume control on the W4S (about as high tech high quality as any on the market from what I can determine). I also like the passive active hybrid of the W4S. Made just around the corner from my home and backed with a 5 year warranty was nice added benefits to me.

I meet E.J. Sarmento today when picking up my new Recovery unit. Very nice and very impressive young man! He was telling me that he is a huge KEF fan and actually just bought a pair of the Reference speakers to use testing and demonstrating W4S equipment! Same thing as I feel, smoothness and sound stage, some of W4S trademarks!

Hi,

possibly my second post here - im using a stp-se with 2 bel canto ref1000m mono to drive dynaudio confidence 5 very happy with the sound.

Actually my second stp-se , i previously had a stp-se and a pair of w4s sx1000 mono.

The ref1000m definately a step up from the sx1000.

Regards dave

wierd my post vount against my name says 14, but this is my third post.

The STP-SE is sounding better and better, especially when matched up with the new Wyred 4 Sound DAC-1 LE. Perfect match and boy do they sound good together...

+1

I agree; if what you want, is a pre-amp that just gets completely out of the way. The STP-SE is your kind of unit.

And the thing is...usually, that kind of transparency; equates to a thin, and/or sterile sound. I don't find that, to be the case with the STP-SE.

It's got body and weight; just completely uncolored. And I'm not just saying that, because I might have one to sell...lol; still gotta A/B, with the LS-26.

But stay or go...I recognize its merits.

That is a pretty good description. I do not always know how to explain what I am hearing. This might explain a little why DSD downloads sound so much better to me than PCM. I have many 96kHz, 192kHz, etc. They sound good, but I hear a huge and immediate difference when I put a DSD on. It is like the PCM had a veil over it, or a curtain in front of the speakers. The DSD just sounds open and natural; very much like I remember my Grace Ruby sounding playing an audiophile album back in my vinyl days.

Always wanted to try that pre. Love the passive/active concept and something I've not seen from other brands.
