Hi Mike,

I was wondering to go down the path of px4 for my Level 7 but not sure whether the EML 45 is a better choice.

Thanks

Based on what the UK guys say...Kron is the way to go. Only Kron I ever tried was KR242. I have more EML Experience.

Bill says the KR45 beats the EML regular mesh 45. He never tried the anniversary globes...neither solid nor mesh.

Both he and Lukasz say the Px4 are the most quiet DHTs of all.

Bill and Kedar both say that the PX4 is a must try....i tell them the EML mesh globe is the bomb.

I didnt see this thread before, so thanks to Mike for pointing it out.

Based on my impressions from others and my own experience, if you had to choose ONE set to get (price/availability being a consideration), get the KRPx4 to start with, then the EML anniv Mesh 45 Globes, then EML SP anniversary 45 globes(unobtanium), then KR45, then EML mesh 45, then EML SP 45.

If your circuit can tolerate it, the KR242 is da bomb. it was for me in the old B7 but dont work in my current GG. Its a 101d on steroids. Kinda the equalizer tube to bridge some of the gap between an older b7 and a first generation GG. The latest GG with R2R firmware update is another step up, I am told.

I agree with everything Norman has written here :D - great advice.

Can you send the specs on your Lite7. You can get them from your included spec sheet. i know you have an atypical one, as its tube rectified. What is the output voltage, what kind of PCM and DSD engines, and what tubes came with the Dac in the first place.

Thanks Norman, I knew you would know! KR242....hmmm...time to call Fred to make sure it will work in my Big 7. Thanks to you, I am loving that 1944 RCA 5U4GY rectifier. What a hidden gem! Paired with the EML Anniversary Globes is a fabulous combination.

Yeah, apparently Kedar said you just need to have the output volume (gain) cut sufficiently at the outset. You can always get sufficient volume with other tubes by turning up the volume knob! LoL

KR242? Sweet tube if you have the means to tame that puppy!

It almost certainly will. Will be great to get your feedback on it vs Elrogs. Also have you tried the KR 274b yet?

To be honest, I'm so happy with Norman's suggestion of the 1944 RCA 5U4GY that I'm not looking for anything else. I do think the KR242 could be fun though on the output side.

Mike, how is the reliability of the KR tubes. My Cary amp came with them stock back when Riccardo and Eunice Kron were still around. I don't remember the details, but I thought they initially partnered with Alesa Vaic. However, that changed with time and the Riccardo's death. Thanks, Larry

Larry - to be honest, I wouldn't want to say as I haven't personally had enough experience with them. I THINK Andy has had a few and maybe he will weigh in here.

I had, and maybe it's still somewhere around, a vintage RCA recti, KR is another planet. Maybe the Tak and Tue original WE are better. Another guy is using the KR 211 on the Lampi amps and swears by them. Will try to listen to his system later in the summer.

This isn't just any normal RCA recti. This was only made in 1944 (and perhaps 1945). Very rare bird.
