Will I notice a large loss in volume?

I'm currently running a Peachtree Audio Nova300 that is 300 wpc power by D class ICEpower units. I may potentially switch to a Hegel H160 which is 150 wpc class AB. I'm running Paradigm Prestige 85f's which have a sensitivity of 93db. I'm just wondering if I'll notice a huge drop off in volume if I made this move. Thank you in advance....

yesterday we were using my Rienzi 87 db sensitivity with a 32 watt leben integrated . we also had a 37 watt grandinote shinai . both had amzing sound and no loss of volume . I can`t see any problem with you using a hegal with such high sensitivity speakers . they are beautiful amplifiers

Most music programs at 85 dB in the room will consume a few watts of power - on the order of 5-20 watts.

You'll notice compression of dynamics in large scale orchestral recordings at volumes above 90 dB in the room.

There are two things I consider important from my amps:

The way they distort at low volumes.

The way they clip at high volumes.

Thank you for the responses... after hearing it, in person, hooked up to my speakers I'll be picking up my H160 tomorrow

Congrats on the new gear! I am interested on what the differences are between you Nova 300 which has some great reviews and the Hegel.

Did you compare the 2 without using their on board DAC's?

I did get to compare the two using analog connections. I really did like the Peachtree unit, but even though the Hegel was down on power, it sounded fuller and seemed like it had a larger soundstage. As for as using the DACs went, the Hegel was superior.

Ok, so my emotions threw a monkey wrench into my visit to the audio store this morning. After the sale of my Nova300, I went there to pick up my new Hegel H160 and somehow ended up leaving with a McIntosh MAC6700. I'm still confused on how this happened but I will definitely post my impressions as soon as I get some time with it!

Hahahahahahahaha, cool!

Great choice Vince, same thing would've happened to me. :D

This is hilarious!!! [emoji23]

I'm happy people who understand can find humor in this because my wife definitely did not when she got a glimpse of the giant McIntosh box....

I can imagine your wife's expression when seeing the box. [emoji4]

Awaiting your impressions...

Just tell her you really wanted the C2600 and a couple MC301 monoblocks so the MAC6700 was the practical alternative.

I'm dying right now because I told her it could be worse... I could have just bought some MC301 Monoblocks... and she was like what the hell is that!!! I have to take it easy on her, she's 7 1/2 months pregnant...

If things get really desperate, maybe you can trade it in on a Devialet??
Had the opportunity to listen to their 200 while I was at the dealer and it was a fantastic piece... I was very impressed, but unfortunately it was a little out of my price range.

I traded my Devialet 220 Pro on the kit in my signature. I had a MAC6700 at home for demo when my 220 Pro was still just a 200. I felt the MAC6700 didn't lose a step on it. One did one thing better and the other did something else better. You have a great amp.
