WHT show in Bonn Germany

This was a real treat for the eyes and ears: Sonus Faber Lilium speakers on ARC tubed electronics (KT120).

Nice details, sweet midrange, good bass. Even though I like the bass a bit better defined.

Amazing finish on the SF:disbelief::disbelief:

These were the clear winners of the show: huge soundstage, solid bass, musical midrange and nice detailed, but not to the least extent sharp highs. I was so impressed, that I asked if they could play the small ones as well.

You can probably imagine my facial expression when they told me that it was actually the small Boenicke W5 SE that were playing. I kid you not.

Based on a first audition at show conditions these clearly do better my Harbeth 3PSR I have been looking to replace. This is the hot candidate now, blowing away both Dyn Special Forty and TAD ME1 by not a small margin. Home audition forthcoming.

Don’t be fooled by the diminutive size, they’re really good. Easily outplaying e.g. the Trenner & Friedl ART due to a more balanced sound.

Kuoppis, thank you so much for the pictures and your thoughts, did you have a chance to listen to the bigger Boenicke speakers? Are those the W13?

I must admit I was so impressed with the W5’s that I did not really listen to the other Boenicke speakers. Maybe also as I was in particular looking for standmounters and already have ok floorstanders in my main system.

the W5 is basically a wide band speaker with a separate woofer and rear firing tweeter for some sparkle. what drew me to them was the simplicity of a 1st order high pass filter for the mid and the side mounted woofer is actually crossed over an octave below middle C so it stays away from the midrange purity you hear out of that little 3" driver.

Like I said in the other thread, I would like to hear them. the De Capos in my system over the music I know well leaves me nonplussed. they're too jekyll and hyde for my tastes.

I can relate to that, that’s how I felt about the Trenner & Friedl ARTs: great highs, great lows, but the music in between was missing.

Thanks for your report .... some interesting comments.

Regarding the Sf speakers, definitely not Lilium but rather Serafino Tradition, $22k. Good to know they sounded good.

Did not check the model separately, as the demo person went through every piece when he announced them. I might also have misunderstood references to elements used in the Lilium as the product name.

They definitely look more like the Serafinos, so thank you for the correction.

Sounded good anyways and definitely looked gorgeous.

Srajan Ebajen of 6moons is a fan. I've heard them a few times at show conditions and the do sound impresive. Incredibly big sound from such a small boxes.

The funny thing is, we’re all guys with great to magnificent main systems. And yet those diminutive speakers manage to excite.

The thing is, they are so narrow, they completely disappear, leaving the sound suspended in space.
