Whole house surge protectors

From what I've heard, they are installed just above the main breaker box. My electrician says they are better than nothing. I isolate my main components and the rest of the house can fry.

I have one, I don't think they have an influence on sonics at all.

I have one and it sits just below my main electrical panel. I got it to protect my equipment when I was contemplating using Synergistic Research conditioners which offer no surge protection at all(as they believe it negatively limits full sound reproduction). Their advice was unplug stuff if a rain storm turns into a huge concomitant lightning storm or a tree branch hitting your main power line.. I ended up going with Shunyata which offers surge protection as well. I have noticed no sonic difference between using shunyata with or without my whole house protector. I think safety is perhaps improved as basic surge protectors have a upper limit on what they can instantaneously protect against. Mine is from Total Protection Solutions-see photo
. I did speak to Torus who make some great stuff. However their electrical panel stuff is more geared for industrial protection-like a sound studio or a nightclub or concert hall and is very very pricey.

I have a Square D Surgelogic on my house. I can't say I have noticed any impact on my audio system over the years.
