If you have a whole house surge protector would you also use an additional surge protector for your equipment?
Would you connect the amp to the additional surge protector if the answer is yes?

I know a number of folks who have whole house surge protection and a separate surge protector on their system for an extra level of protection. I don't know that this is 100% necessary but when you consider the equipment investment involved, I can understand the extra precaution.

Whole house covers strikes outside the house to your lines. Local covers inside the house between the gear and the main into the house. Many consider the former more important if you need to skip one. But its a judgement call. Try to make sure the local will not limit instantaneous current.

Is there a negative sonic impact in using surge protectors?

They have the potential to limit instantaneous current which can have a negative affect on headroom especially for amplifiers. Some manage this better than others. Shunyata forgoes their excellent suppression technology (used in the Triton) in the Cyclops which was designed for high current amps.

Audience claims to avoid "degrading protection devices" by using a "Low resistance, heavy duty magnetic circuit breaker power switch."

When thinking about current availability the focus should be on instantaneous current which is typically 3 to 4 times rated current for an amp.

I use a environmental EP-2050 at the main panel.
Then I ran 8 awg cable to the front of my room that has a 60a(240v)Torus for my front amps.
For the rear I ran another 8awg cable for a small sub panel that has a 20a(240v)Torus that runs the rear amps, components, projector ect.
Around the house I use a few Digiplugs and a few Surgex protectors for main tv and computers.
Bubble inside bubble type protection as I had blown two F-113subs that were not connected to the Torus and the other two that were plugged into the Torus were good as all digital also.
That episode happened before the Ep-2050 was installed.

Here in Florida I worry about lightening a lot. I have a surge protector provided by the electric company right at the meter. I put additional heavy duty protectors on each of my power panels. I power my electronic gear through a PS Audio power plant which provides a final level of protection (I hope).

Yes , I have a large Square D whole House surge suppressor. I have removed all other units I was using after preferring the sound without them. On my source components I do have them plugged into a Shunyata PS8 and Venom Defender which provides "minimal" protection.
