My favorites change from time to time and when I a m introduced to ones I never knew about. Many times I ask myself how the heck I messed that all these years.

So I will start the thread with this....

One of my favorite guitarists at the moment is Jeff Kollman who is another virtuoso that can play it all.
He has done several solo and group projects as well as music for TV and Movies as per below bio from his web site.
His more recent collaboration is with Chad Smith, drummer from the Chilli Peppers, The Bombastic Meatbats. It is rock fusion at its best. He also had a band called Cosmosquad, another named Edwin Dare. My favorite disk recently is Guitar Screams Live. His most recent offering, Silence in the Corridor (tribute to Gary Moore) has Jeff playing about 7 different styles on the same disk.
Lots of great Youtube offerings to listen to for review.

Jeff Kollman's diverse guitar style, which fuses jazz harmony with Modern heavy music, is influencing a new generation of guitarists across the globe.

Kollman has been voted among the top 20 favorite guitarists in Young Guitar Magazines readers poll along side the likes of Santana, Jeff Beck, and Edward Van Halen. Besides his worldwide guitar hero status, Jeff is an in demand session guitarist, co writer, and producer for rock legends. Jeff has played and or recorded with a diverse many such as, Jill Scott, Ufo, Glenn Hughes, Lao Tizer, Michael Schenker, HTP, and with his groups Edwin Dare, Cosmosquad, JKB, Mogg/Way, Crumb Bros. and more. On his own label Marmaduke Records, Kollman has written and produced 14 solo and band recordings and a recent DVD release with his group Cosmosquad, which was recorded live in Hollywood and released in July 2008. Jeff is also busy writing songs for film and Television. Credits include Sahara, Failure To Launch, Clerks 2, Fantastic 4, Eight Below, Rounders, Slither, Reaper, and Showtimes "Masters Of Horror" series to name a few.

An avid fan and collector of Fender guitars, Kollman signed on as an endorser of Fender and has spent a great deal of time educating and spreading the spirit of rock n roll through Fender. In 2008 alone, Jeff has performed in countries such as Thailand, Taiwan, The Philippines, Malaysia, Mexico, Hawaii, five cities in China and three separate rock tours to Japan. Jeff's latest venture is his 70’s influenced rock /funk group 'The Bombastic Meatbats' featuring the legendary rock drummer Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers).

I like Richard Thomson's guitar work but find his vocals to be too limited in range and tone but thanks for the response Bruce.

I understand that. In fact, I don't get much reaction when I introduce friends to his music. I was convinced, though, the first time I saw him live and then, a few more times when I saw him in small venues. I think he is an artist where it may be hard to recognize his genius until you've seen him close up. Of course, I know.....no one appeals to everyone.

I don't know much of Eric Johnson....but this is a one of a kind performance.

Zappa played in the gym at my college....SUNY New Paltz....WOW! The parts that I remember were amazing. John McGlaughlin was the opening act.

Also saw that tour. Its where i first heard McLaughlin. Another great on the guitar. He's in my top 5.

One of my all time favorite players is a relatively unknown from Baltimore. He is a teacher, has several band groupings and plays lots of shows in Annapolis and Fells Point along with Maryland Wine Festivals. I have traveled to Baltimore and surrounding areas to see Carl many times. He is very low-key, humble, and just a heck of a nice guy. He plays mostly jazz-fusion but is also known for his full blown Jimi Hendrix shows, one of which I caught at one of the Wine Fests several years back. He has several disks out and most of them feature Dennis Chambers on drums and even a track or two with Wil Calhoun from Living Colour.

Here is a clip of an Interview with Bob Miles and then the studio track of Little Wing, where he mixes Rock with Jazz and doubles many leads with Guitar and Sax.

Enjoy and check him out!

Joe...if you get the chance go see Larry Carlton live. He puts on a good show. I've had the pleasure to see and meet him a number of times. Nice guy.

Hi Dave,

I saw them both at different times in Huntington, NY at the IMAC center. Great, great shows. Sadly it's closed now.
