When Is an Older Speaker Just Too Old?

Older pro series JBL's were designed from the onset as capital equipment. We now know they were overbuilt and remain serviceable and in spec for decades past their useful life. Horn speakers in general experience very little wear and tear from a mechanical standpoint vis a vis direct radiators. One only has to observe the massive cone displacement (underhung VC) when playing DR speakers at higher volumes. How many hours will they endure before the inevitable happens, will the mfr still have replacement drivers for your specific model speakers a decade or two in the future?

I may have let my wife believe (for awhile) that speakers were like car tires and needed replacing every couple years.
