What Will Happen to My Music Library When Streaming Dies?

Radio is very different from the end user who plays the same song 1000 times because it’s in his play list.

Not sure that one user playing a song 1000 times is any more liable for royalty payments to an artist than a radio station playing that song once to 10,000 listeners - perhaps the reverse in fact.

I don't know about US practice, but certainly in the UK, radio stations pay a huge sum to the recording artists agency (forgotten its exact title) so playing on the radio is good for the artist both for promoting his work and for earning him a bit of cash. Are you saying that US radio stations pay nothing?

Calvin, I'd always heard and read that ripped CDs sound better vs playing CDs. Maybe it's just a matter of preference? I really don't know?

I believe that all my rips, weather from CDs or SACDs sound better from my server. I am also very sure that the playback system certainly will make a difference. If your spinner is top notch but your digital playback is so so then I would think the spinner would sound better.

I use an Oppo which is what I would consider a good decent optical player. At this point I use it exclusively for ripping disks. Even though it is attached to the system I can not remember the last time I actually listened to a spinning disk.

The article I posted shows just how little they make from streaming.

It's a complicated topic as most are, here are my summarized thoughts: While artists make little on streaming they do get exposure - global exposure - global advertising which helps with their primary revenue stream - touring. Touring entails getting out and getting paid to do a day's (or often a night's) work. Like we all do. Final thought - your career or lack thereof is a choice. I played as an amateur musician for years, made little $ but did it mostly for the fun. I augmented my income with another job - my primary career. Many do the same as to "make it" as an artist is a rarity.

I rip all my CDs using an ACS10 (best investment I ever made, thanks Mike) and then make a playlist from there. However, I normally enjoy playing a complete album all the way thru. So, though I have several playlists using my own CDs and Qobuz's library - I like to play compete albums thru the most. Many albums tell a story that one misses if they just select their favorite songs from it.

So… how do you make a playlist from the LPs and CDs that you own?
