This is a rare threat: Loussier’s ‘The Best of Play Bach’ is maybe the one album I have most longed for on vinyl. But then again it was only available in digital format.
But then one day I found this exclusive and very high quality Telarc pressing on 200g vinyl. For me a must have.
Am I posting it in the wrong section? After all it’s Bach, so is it classic or jazz? In my personal subjective opinion this is the beyond comparison best Loussier compilation, way better than Plays Bach 1, 2, 3. Partly same music, different takes and track selection.
For me this album exemplifies what I value when listening to music: great compositions, original interpretation, intellectually challenging the convention, superb SQ, vinyl uhh-aah.
For those who have not looked it up, at conservatory and after studying with France’s most respected piano professor Yves Nat from age 13 onwards Loussier was considered a classical piano prodigy. Yet he went to challenge the paradigm and risked his classical music reputation with the ‘Playing Bach’ cross-over. He is both, a remarkable classical and jazz interpret, which he demonstrated in this series. And the piano and small jazz ensemble play on vinyl is just great.
I love my vinyl rig, but someone I recently sat together with in my music room put a crazy idea in my head: how might all this sound on a Brinkmann Bardo? I have heard it play and it immediately convinced me, very positive comments all around.
Well, that would be a next level experience.
