I really love McIntosh gear. I know people were talking about them being sold again, however the one consistent thing is McIntosh gear remains the same quality, built in Binghamton no matter who the new owners are. This has been the case for a very long time.Threads going on 11 years! Mc611's with Mac autoformers which tbh I have no idea if they offer any benefit to a ss design. I do appreciate the improved dynamics over the 250 wpc int I previously had
Back in the day most every brand sold themselves against McIntosh as cheaper and sounding as good or better. And I tried a lot of different ones, at one time owning McIntosh tube pre-tuner-amp, and then C26 pre with the MC225... that little 25 WPC amp powered my KEF speakers better than any other amplifier I tried until going to straight on mono block amps... old system in the photo... some weird stuff like the preamp which was like a little bread box. I loved that table (and Grace Ruby cartridge on SME arm) and loved Nakamichi decks at the time. Oh, that is VPI's first ever record cleaner!!!I'm getting close to 3 years in my main system with no more itch to scratch. In the 80's and early 90's I was drawn to Mcintosh appearance, but wasn't sold on the sound difference compared to brands like B&K that dealers would actually discount to push out the door. I replaced a h360 and then H590 with the Mc611's and driving the Blades differences were easy to notice.
