What to do when your tubes die.

I bury mine in the backyard. A proper burial ceremony is conducted and he grieving process begins. It truly is a sad day.

What do I do when tubes die ?

Grab the fire extinguisher .. I have only ever had one tube die and it was going in a blaze of glory - went redline and took a few things with it...a friend had to do the repairs for me and give the unit the good housekeeping seal - NEVER leave tube amps going while not home...It is a risk

That picture must be of a tube kit because it looks like a rookie with no skills assembled it. I haven't seen a worse soldering job since one-eyed Tommy ten thumbs assembled a kit.

Nope...its actually a Motorola console pull however; it was modified to bypass the Can caps...so you are right in that respect,,,rookie crap...LOL. I am just glad my friend got it back in operation as it is a sweet little amp

Here is what it looks like full underneath

and here is a similar amp that has not been bastardized...but improved..whole different quality of work

Hey Doug, We shipped the majority of the tubes to our relatives :) I had one left - check it out. I asked by daughter to make more, so we have them as well, but... still waiting.

BTW, this is a very nice and dead National 245 - one of my favorite tubes.

Sorry, but IMHO this advice has no support in reality and can be misleading.

Properly built tube amplifiers of trusty manufacturers are safe and have safety fuses. However if you got a non certified amplifier built in a garage by an expert tweaker that loves bypassing these horrible safety devices that kill sound quality you should have the fire extinguisher close to it permanently, being tube or SS.

Many house appliances that are permanently switched have much more risk of fire than a decent tube amplifier.
