Would love to know what amps with what speakers you guys are using and the size of the room.

Thanks,
Ken

On my 40.1's, the Hegel H30 (with my GAT or McIntosh C500T) is outstanding as well as my LM-219IA. I hope to try my Jolida 3502 soon. From what I hear with the Jolida on my Strads, I know it will be perfect on the Harbeth's.

My Naim Supernait2 was a great match too, especially on the 30.1's.

I think Joe's response is evidence; I never found Harbeths...and I owned 3s, 7s, and 30.1s...to be very amp picky. Sounded good, no matter what they were paired with :)

I've always said...when it's time to hang up my audiophile hat, and just be an old man and listen; I'd gladly take a Luxman 590 IA, and a pair of Harbies...and call it a day.

Chris,

I agree. As long as you give the Harbeth 20+ wpc, preferably 30 or more, you can listen all day. I don't listen loud so it's enough for me. Higher volume, of course more power. One important thing though, tubes give you a special dimension and depth that no SS can achieve on them. IMO!

Because I try and find humor in most everything, the name Harbeth always makes me smile because it sounds like some kind of oral hygiene problem (much like halitosis, but with a nicer ring to it). As in: Watch out for Joe today. He has harbeth and the funk will knock you down if you get too close.

if you hang out at the HUG forums Alan shaw will tell you a $500 SS integrated amp is sufficient to extract the max performance. Funny how he keeps raising prices (5s are now $7000!!) but the $500 example stays the same, FWIW he also has no use for tubes or vinyl.

Rob,

It's funny, but there are clear differences between amps. I can't understand why Alan will not or can not admit it. Makes you wonder how he voices his speakers.

he's completely by the numbers and I honestly don't think he trusts his ears. He promulgates well informed and researched arguments but as a music lover misses the plot completely. from a marketing standpoint it's risk to alienate devoted customers by telling them they're wrong (tube/vinyl adherents).

As long as he continues to produce great speakers it doesn't matter. Leave the electronics to the end user. We will determine what goes best with them.

Hopefully Harbeth wannabe's can respond! [emoji6] I would love a pair of 40.1's. I would probably pair them with my Cary 805AE's. If I didn't have those - Pass XA, Accuphase or a single Mc 275.

Harbeth wannabe? Well I plan on trying out a pair of SHL5's with my LM218 and eventually a Leben CS600. I'll let you all know how it goes...

Well...you're speaking of class-A/B SS. IMO, class-A and Harbies are sweet :)

I think I had an $800 Cayin 265Ai and 7s at one time, and it was heaven.

My XA60.5's aren't too shabby either :)

I'm sure your XA30.8 would be awesome on my 40.1's.

Never had an Harbeth, but I have always wondered. Do those screws holding the baffle on to the speaker work loose over time?
