What is the future of hi end audio?

I know what you are saying Brian. However, I think those that wanted to do just that (downsize for convenience or wife-sake) have already done that. Do you see yourself doing the same with that gear right now? I bet not, and I bet not because YOU do appreciate it and what it brings to the table.

I do have plans to "Downsize" in the next few years, but not to a Bose Wave, more towards a nice Integrated and a good pair of speakers. I will sell off everything I currently have to fund that. I just got the wife to approve of a $10k to $15K budget when I do it. That is still pocket change for many here and nobody I personally know will drop that much on a stereo setup or HT.

You can still almost rule the world for $15K if applied intelligently. It will still make you an audio 1%-er...LoL.

Sweet.

The most impressive demo I have heard so far is the Goldmund Anatta Wireless (unfortunately priced at $250K, loL) and I wait for an invitation to hear the ProLogos Wireless mk2. My pal has sold his firstborn to buy a pair of these at $70K retail. He traded in ALL his gear, including stuff in the attic, thousands of LPs, thousands of CDs, hundreds of Reel to reel tapes. I am talking about Acoustic Zen Crescendo speakers, Telos amps, Prism Titan dac, Turntables and phono-stages, EVERYTHING.

The Speaker IS the Source. Hehehehe.

His wife is as happy as a lark now that the living room has oodles of space and he is enjoying his music fed wirelessly from an Aurender N-10 to the ProLogos.

Works for him and I guess for others too. Let's see if he stays off the OCD path of the audiophile...
I don't believe there will be any loss of sound quality in one box solutions, quite the opposite in fact, DSP crossovers are technically better, DSP can correct otherwise uncorrectable driver anomalies, speakers canbe designed. to interact far less with the room.
We leave the Grimm LS1's on all the time connected to a MAC as source ,all the family enjoy great sound quality for films,tv and music.
Keith.

First post here.

I used to own a pair of active speakers with DAC built in. The B&O beolab 5. Great speakers with gobs of power and dsp bass room correction. As I explored further into the audiophile world, I wanted to try different amps and dacs and give analog a spin.

I sold the beolabs and bought mcintosh, sonus faber and other separates. That's the problem with all in one systems, no room to tinker.

That said, the idea of selling everything and going back to an all in one system like the new beolab 90 or the avantgarde zero is enticing. Nice and clean setup without all the racks and cables and 1 remote

Welcome to AS!

And I agree - sweet and simple is great, but part of the fun is to tinker. I love to experience different equipment.

has actually regressed over the years is the quality of the recordings and the quality of the artists making the recordings.
I agree with most if not all of this post, but this line really stood out for me.

Commonly known as the old man, head in the sand, I like the old stuff better than the new stuff syndrome.:congrats:

Plenty of great music out there now and plenty that sounds good.

To me, my stereo is an experience, a gateway to audio bliss. I love to look at it, listen to it and enjoy the fact I own it. I don't buy and sell every year and I certainly don't like the 1 box idea. That is how I started out in grade school, with a 1 box Amperex radio/cassette player.:P
