I'm chasing the holy grail here & ... Oh, sorry, I'm just doing the normal as is everyone else. Whats the best system compared to good live, (smother your soul in chocolate/beer/wine/whiskey/hooch etc.,) music you have heard on a system & what were the components & speakers?

I have yet to hear the MBL 101 X. Agree with you on the Wison XLF and Thors Mike.

Magico Q7 with darTZeel pre+power, and Soulution 5-series CD player.
The Q7s with VAC at Newport were impressive as well.

Coming right behind, YG Sonjas 1.3 with darTZeel and MSB source.

In all situations, the rooms were huge, but the setup filled the entire place with ease!

The best HiFi IMO comes from Europe, not USA, Japan or elsewhere. German, Austrian, Swiss, Danish...

Brodmann Acoustics - Joseph Brodmann Series - Vienna

They are traditionally grand piano makers & incorporate sounding boards into their loudspeaker designs.

The newer BA Vienna Classic VC7 is also a jaw dropping loudspeaker.

I could even be very happy to find a place for their entry level Festival Series. They are that good.

I thought your Maggies 20.7 was close to live sound No ?

Herve's demo system.

EMS TT, his daTZeel monoblocs and the Evol Acoustics MM3 speakers, playing his special SuperTramp translucent LP.

Awesome!

Goldmunds Apologue demo with digital was up there too.

Emerald Physics 2.3 and 2.7 were ALMOST LIVE as their slogan says. Best bang for buck.

If I had heard CH with Zellatons or the Vivid G2 I would enjoy that more than the W Benesch cardinals which were not fully broken in.

For me, dynamics is a large part of the live experience.

For emotional involvement, then tubes seem to gain the upper hand.

Norman - you like the Emerald Physics as I do. Have you seen Clayton's new designs?

Avantgarde Trio's.

But just like live amplified, it can be too much of a good thing to listen to all the time,

Some of it yes. My Boston buddy with the 2.7s has changed his drivers from Beyma to the new Clayton ones, ripped his CD collection professional wiith the Clayton guy in Chicago on a pro machine and upgraded to full Spatial, selling his beloved Lampi Dac in favour of the Apogee Prism Pro station. He says the end result is now several levels above stock EP and he is in ecstasy after decades in thsi hobbie. He is a dynamics junkie and had it in sopdes before, but now the entire package is complete. Clayton did the installation personally when he visited Boston. My pal says that Clayton is sooo right…FULL Spatial EQ is not to be believed!!! If I can find the email, I will PM it to you.

Wally = superb
Clayton = Mind blowing paradigm shift

Keep in mind my buddy is/was a vinyl freak.

Not a system I would listen to on a daily basis but if I wanted a I'm there experience them it would be theater based with the audio equipment listed below.
5 JBL Everest 6700
4 JBL passive 18" subs
2 Crown 3500 watt stereo amps for subs
5 Soulution 701's for Everest
Krell 707 processor
JBL Sdec 4500 room EQ./ crossover / phase control

For 2ch or multi ch Bluray concerts this would do the trick. Have heard a system similar to this and from jazz to the blue man group it is as real as it gets.

Norman - I agree with your buddy. Clayton saved his best for his new company - Spatial. I cannot wait to get his Statements (mine will be the first ones). Clayton WILL be showing the Spatial statements at RMAF with tube gear. I'm betting that system will get more than a casual mention.

Brodman r the best and most realistic at producing classical piano I have ever heard. However at all other genre they r extremely limited in terms of dynamics and soundstage. I think they r also very beautiful in terms of the woodwork which seems to resonate like a cello

This is it!
The Magico Ultimate III at the High-End in Munich. Carefully set-up with subwoofers and Pass first-watt amps. The real thing. Just more audible than others. The close 2 and 3 were on the same show this year: the Focal Grande Utopia III and the Cabasse La Sphère.

The Grande can be amazing in a large room, as can Acapella, and with the right gear, like VAC. Cabasse has never done much for me, although I've always walked into their rooms excited that it was going to be a great experience.

I would love to hear the new Ultimate.
