I have a friend who loves Classical Music, in fact he is a sort of oracle on that subject. He also composes music and will explain to me how the composer wrote the particular piece, explaining all the musical terms like 'counterpoint' and others etc.. We both love listening to Music but there is one difference, I like to hear music through quality audio equipment to get the benefit of the recording. While he has very little interest as to the quality of audio equipment and more interested as to how the music is played, particularly how the conductor has interpreted a piece of music. I once explained to him that some brands of ampliflier do prat (pace, rhythm and timing) better than others (eg Naim Audio) and he looked at me as if I was mad...! Of course he looks at it in a logical way that if the players music is recorded how on earth can the audio component change the pace, rhythm or timing...!
