What did you give up?

My spouse, also of almost 25 years, has never complained about my continued build-out. She occasionally jokes with me about “thought you said you were done!”. She has recognized it is a continuing journey, never asked “how much?”, but most importantly recognizes my passion for the hobby. She has her craft room across from my listening room, so we’re usually not far apart. I count my blessings every day!

This thread has sort of gone the way of many of them.
When I started it, my comment was what I was willing to give up because I loved my very reasonable wife. It has since turned into a .... She has a lot of nerve, how dare she suggest that. I would get rid of her before my equipment.🤷‍♂️

hey Brad, now that you've started this thread I'm realizing we are a couple of old farts arounds here ! All these 'youngsters' talking about being married 20, 30 and 40 years, hell they're just getting started. LOL !

I never really thought about it ,but if you insist... just call me a 64 yr old youngster!:)

I will be 70 in a few weeks. My current wife and I have been together for 30 years, we have been married for 7 years. This is my first marriage as I was determined not to get married when I was young. I knew I was too selfish to have a wife and kids at a young age. We do have 3 wonderful grandchildren that we get to see at least weekly. I have finally grown up.....lol.

When I met my first wife I already had some pretty decent gear. I had the very first VIP cleaning machine that was ever made. She did not think much of it. I went from mono amps and preamp to a receiver to cut back the number of component... granted it was a Nakamichi receiver with statis amp. I agreed to leave the system with her, much smaller than I once had, when we split.

When I met my current wife, my soulmate, she heard me talking about missing listening to music. She did her best thinking she was helping me by buying a Bose radio and CD changer. Better than nothing, but not to an acceptable level. She has been so understanding when I upgrade my system. She knows it is important to me. In both the houses we have purchased together having a dedicated music room was a requirement, which she is totally supportive of. So 20 years together we know that each others hobbies and interests are important.

Our retirement move to Kansas, we both agreed that a music room for me and a sewing room for her were both mandatory. My music room is small, but it works. It is located off the rear of the house at the end of a hall way so it is fairly isolated. It is now the room for audio and my new hobby, guitars. It is a bit cramped but it works. I prefer small speakers any way so that is not really an issue. I support her also in what is important to her. So for Christmas we got her the machine she has wanted. The ultimate sewing, etc., machine.... who knew how expensive these machines can be :). Don't think audio is the only expensive hobby because I think her hobby is running neck and neck with mine :).
