What are your upgrade reasons?

We all like to upgrade, but why?

What’s the driver here, and how do we know it’s right?

Is it something in the system setup; power, cables, distribution?

Perhaps the speaker or component itself?

Does having mis-matched brands at different price points tell you to change?

Do you think some reasons are you changed physically or emotionally?

How do you know?

you forgot one 'big one' ....... the power of the internet forums and ones insatiable appetite for more !

Running electronics from the early 90s with no Remote or Phono made me want to upgrade. My Speakers are now 19 years old and doing fine.

At present I am looking for improvement in specific areas (more organic sound, sound stage depth). Based on experience with a loaner, I have a pretty good idea what I need to upgrade.

I have had various reasons.

For cables and power conditioning it was trying something and if the improvement was great enough to warrant the expense. How would I decide that, for me if I remove it and and miss what it did, miss it enough I'll shell out the funds.

The worst, was upgrading a piece, such as speakers, that was an improvement over the prior speakers but threw off the synergy of the system and caused that merry-go-round thing until satisfied again.

I think we all have a point where we have listened to our system and just get the bug to change something. Often we should resist if we are satisfied with what we are hearing from the system. Sorry Mike, LOL Sort of a bordum.

Another was breaking my own rules and buying without trying, then having to sell and get what worked. There is nothing worse than not being satisfied with the sound you are getting from your system.

How you know you are right is when you are sitting and listening, finding yourself fully satisfied, knowing there could be something better but not willing to try as to not mess things up. As an example, I had at one time a $2500.00 CJ preamp, I really liked the sound, really good performer. I eventually upgrade to a CT model at twice the price, it was, clearly better but something I liked and missed about the less expensive model.

Then there's that feeling of an ongoing project, yes, it's good, but what can I do to make it even better.

I think I start getting bored with all the music I like and change my system to make the music new again. None of that accuracy for me, by golly, I just want entertainment.

Interest of trying out new things, availability of particular gear/ tech I am interested in, constant evolution of the system.

With my TT, I knew there had to be better, and a local dealer worked a deal with me.

With my amps, they were faulty and needed replacing.

With my digital and preamp, I keep with quite a few manufacturer suggested upgrades. My dac is getting to costly to upgrade now. It's a trade it in and move to the next level. Actually I was told to move up 2 levels to really get the benefit.

I think I need 2 new power cords. The Ching Chen are alright. Don't do anything really. Nothing bad or good. I think I want better copper for more presence and power.
