What are you listening to tonight ?

FedEx just delivered my UHQR pressing from Acoustic Sounds of Miles Davis 'Kind of Blue', once this approaching storm blows through I'm jonesin to spin it. Will probably pour a dram or two of my best whisky !

Enjoy! It’s wonderful.

Can't seem to get enough Count Basie or anyone who sings with his orchestra...Ella, Frank, Tony, Sarah, Billy, etc. The Count also makes some top notch, top quality, recordings. The horns are usually just killer sounding on a good audio system.

And the acoustic instruments on many bluegrass and acoustic music recordings can also sound stellar. Unfortunately, since bluegrass is the poor stepchild of country music, it can be a bit of a challenge to find high quality bluegrass recordings. Many bluegrass groups/artists don't have the money for top notch studio recordings. So they end up with DIY recordings done in someone's basement. Often not very conducive to high quality recordings.

Take 5 by Dave Brubeck, the high resolution version,it's excellent

Jakson, Johnson, Brown & Company by Milt Jackson

Mayday by The Warning

Star Crossed by Kacy Musgraves (The CMA wouldn't allow this album to compete, wanted to hear it. Pretty good but didn't save it, I agree it's not Country ) First album of hers I heard, checked out some earlier tracks off other albums, not my thing.

so, what's the verdict? do you think the sound and pressing quality deliver on expectations?

School and Asylum are both best listened to cranked up ..lol. I saw Roger at Ruth Eckerd Hall a few years ago and he was awesome.
