What are you listening to tonight ?

This just showed up on TIDAL's "What's New" album list.

I have already thanked you many times for your great LP recommendations. Your vinyl jazz collection appears to be a bottomless treasure chest. Please keep the good stuff coming.

When listening to this classic Blue Note album by Pete LaRoca via Tidal, it is good and well played. Listening to it on vinyl this morning it’s mesmerizing and authentic. Many thanks.

Thank you! It's true, at least to my ears and on my system, that the vinyl releases of older jazz seems to sound better than their digital counterparts. I'm not totally media agnostic, I think the mastering and production and use of masters has an awful lot to do with which medium sounds better. My basic rule of thumb is that if the original recording was done in analog, I'll buy it in analog. I see little point in buying vinyl that was recorded originally in digital, except that I understand that often (sometimes?) the vinyl exceeds the dynamic range of the digital, even though it shouldn't. I've got so many great jazz albums on vinyl that I haven't posted, but it would literally take thousands of hours to listen to all of them.

MQA Version

Mike put this in the MQA finds thread but those who don't want the MQA version may want to try the "normal" version. There are a few throw aways in this concept album but there are also some great tracks.
