This time of year (for a while now); is
Best Of... season for me. Sooo many lists; sooo much new music.
Even I...can't possibly, listen to it all; LOL. So here's how I approach the lists.
One...you have to know your publication.
Rolling Stone,
SPIN, etc...are gonna be pretty mainstream, and not stray too far left-of-center (unless such a title, is a near universal inclusion...so they're not too far out on a limb).
Stereogum,
Pitchfork, and the like; they lay pretty heavy, on the good RAP/Hip-Hop/Hybrid/Crossover stuff. And then a source like
The Quiteus, OTOH; hell...I'll admit. I've never heard, heard of...or even
seen, some/most of
their nominees...or even seen them, on any other lists! (Of course...if memory serves; that's how I found Hookworms
Pearl Mystic. They had it #1 one year, and no one else...even had it in their 50; so you never know, where you'll find your gems).
So...I try to find titles that a) I haven't heard before, b) seem to be somewhere, on just about everyone's list; and c) have a little blurb, that draws me in...and makes me think, "this will make an interesting listen".
AFAIC...this is the best Indie release, I have heard so far!
