What are you listening to tonight ?

Just finished up Branford Marsalis, Braggtown. The music can be challenging if you're not up to it, but also can be absolutely beautiful. I wanted to take it down a notch and relax, so now have a Japanese Redbook version of Miles Davis, Kind Of Blue. I also have another Redbook version, as well as an SACD version, but this one is my favorite digital version.

I just turned the sounds on & since the amps(tube) need ten to twenty to get rhythm I put the digital on shuffle & grabbed a brewski. John Coltrane & Johnny Hartman came up first & from about 15 seconds into the song I cued the album & sat. Pure joy......

Oh yeah, a fantastic album!

Speaking of which, now up is Count Basie Big Band, Farmers Market Barbeque, originally a Pablo Records release, this version is Analogue Productions 45rpm.

Now up is Count Basie and the Kansas City Seven, a re-release by Speakers Corners Records at 33&1/3 rpm. A great sounding recording, extending well outside the speakers. I think it may even have a quieter noise floor than the Count Basie album I just finished, but hard to tell, as I have to crank the volume very high indeed in order to hear any surface noise whatsoever. This TTW turntable is amazing.

I have that as well, it is a great album.

Stepped into the way back machine and am playing an old, old ATCO vinyl pressing of Vanilla Fudge. I can't remember if this is my original from 1967 or a used buy, but the sound quality is pretty bad, as the highs are emphasized and piercing, so I'm listening at a reduced volume.
