Well, now that we have the CD Player situation taken careof (many thanks to Joe) it's time to turn my attention to getting my DenonDP-47f Turntable up and running. What it needs is a new Cartridge.
My experience with cartridges is very limited. I have a PITAShure MX97e on a Pioneer PL-530 which is a constant battle with frequency rolloffs and such. I have a AT95E cart on my Pioneer PL-510 that I find to be anice sounding cart and finally a Sumiko BluePoint on the Denon which I find tobe just awful. Not sure of the condition of the stylus on it and such so I’dbetter get the Denon fitted with a new cart/stylus before playing anymorerecords. (Only played a couple of songs on one to try it out).
I’d like some recommendations/suggestions.
So what Moving Magnet carts would be a good fit for aDenon DP-47f turntable. Someone pointed me an Ortofon something somethingBronze (sorry too many models and all jumbled in my head) a few months ago, but$300 is just too much for a cartridge for me. The Sumiko that’s on it runsaround $400 and for me the higher the price of the cartridge the worse thesound.
So, are there any cartridges in the range of $30 to $100 thatwould be a really good fit for a Denon DP-47f? Would an AT95E work well withthe Denon? Also, if the chosen cart comes with a choice of stylus types, would an elliptical be the best choice or one of the other ones? Right now I play my records on my Pioneer PL-510 with the AT95E cart that has an Elliptical stylus.

My friend, the AT95E is a fine entry cartridge and if I still had a spare, I would send you one.

With that said, I would move up that chain just a bit to the At120E

I think it will give you more detail, more richness in that range.

Make sense? That Denon is a great table and if you could afford it I would push you toward the At440Mla which would be perfect but I understand budgets !!! LOL

Thanks Rob. I'll add the AT95E and the AT120E to the list of carts to consider while I wait for others to chime in as well. I can probably go a little more than $100, but I want to see if there are any outstanding carts for that table within my original range. If I do go up, I don't want the difference to be subtle, I want to notice it without breaking a sweat. Oh yeah, and keep your cactus away from my graft! :Pha ha ha

If you are going to look at the AT-120E, then look at the original version instead of the second addition. It is listed as the AT-120 E/T and has a nude instead of bonded diamond. Steve at TTN carries both. With that straight arm might also want to consider the Ortofon OM series.

Agree with Jack...sometimes the originals ARE BETTER than the new improved...LOL

If you could swing it...knock your sock off and get the AT440Mla...Night and day...I think you heard the needle drop I recorded with it , yes ?

I'll go ahead and add that one too.

Does the tonearm shape present a factor in choosing a cartridge? The Denon is a straight arm as opposed to a -S- arm like my Pioneer TTs.
