Well..another system goes out to pasture..looking for replacement

The Sony CMT-SBT100 is on sale directly from Sony for $70. It's currently backordered, but it doesn't get much cheaper than this.

I was reading about this unit and it appears it might have a proprietary speaker connection, so you might want to check on that before getting too interested.

DAMN IT! A fantastic find shot to hell because Sony blows it again. Those damn proprietary speaker connectors!!!
I hate Sony, always have!

Well, I'm putting the replacing my micro-system on the back burner for a while. I have a couple of other things of higher importance that require my attention and money at this time.

I went to the pub the other night; half the people were taking snapshots from their smartphones. ...Inside the pub! ...A live band was playing but they weren't good.
If they would have been good I bet 90% of the people would have play with their smartphones.

Have you taking a bus (public transportation) recently? People ain't talking to each other, but to their phones! ...Or playing with their laptops.

I fully understand Eric what you're saying.
Some smartphones (Sony, Nokia) have a 40 megapixel camera in the back, and some have a 10 X optical zoom! Almost a DSLR camera!
People aren't buying phones to make calls no more (not the priority) but as a camera, a gyroscope, a thermometer, a heartbeat reader, a blood transfusion, a "take-your-pills" alarm indicator/reminder, a GPS navigator, playing 3D games, watching full HD (1920 x 1080P) movies, downloading music, surfing the Wide Web World (WWW), and some of them smartphones have more processing power (2.8 GHZ Quad-core) and RAM (3 to 4GB) than many older computers! ...And 64/128GB memory.

I did a lot of research in the last few weeks and I was totally blown away!
The pixel density in some of them screens (up to 6.5 inch diagonal - and it's a phone!) is more than a top-of-the-line 65" Panasonic plasma HDTV!

The biggest smartphones you need two hands to navigate them; others with less than a 4.5" screen you're good to go with one hand operation.

A smartphone like the HTC one with stereo speakers, you can use as a full bedroom system! It has an internal amplifier, a powerful one!
And then you have all your sources for music and movies and pictures and direct skype view on your family and friends. ...Anywhere in the world!

Five years ago a high-end flipper phone cost you $500, today you get a computer/HDTV/hi-end camera in the palm of your hand for only $200!
It goes so fast that every 3 months upgrades are available and the competition is more fierce than ever.
Some contracts with Netflix, TV and the whole World are available for $150/month+!

On the other hand you can get a no-contract Windows 8 phone (Nokia Lumia 520) for only fifty bucks! ...That is amazing!
I did order the 520, but after more analysis I switched to the Motorola Moto G (no contract) for $200 Cdn (in the US you can get it for much less - $140 or so). ...If I was more into serious "phon" (fun - pun intended) I would get the Samsung Galaxy S4 (or S5). ...HTC One, perhaps.

And you can get a 2.27 GHZ quad-core processor with 3GB of Ram with a full 5" hi-rez (HD) screen (or even 6") for less than $300 inside your phone! ...A 3,000 mAh battery (removable).
...LG G, Google Nexus, no contract!

No thanks. If I want totake pictures I use a DSLR (Prosumer grade). I used to use an SLR until film went the way of the dodo. I learned photography on a SLR and that's all I can use. I can't even use a point and shoot because there is no veiwfinder. Everytime I tried a point and shoot it looks like I'm taking pictures during an earthquake.:)
If Ineed to use the web I use a PC. Then there is the extreme expense of using a cell phone for all that stuff. Then of course there is the 2 inch screen that I could not see even if I used a microscope.
I have a regular flipper cell phone for emergencies and that's all I need.
Those deals we all see and hear all the time are not real. Example: No contract...ok great, but it will cost you to use the phone for anything. You'll not only be charged for every call in and out, but for every little thing you do with it, so at the end your looking at about $260 per month, probably more in Canada. Free phones - my favorite, phone is free only if you sign a two year contract that allows the carrier to do whatever they want to you. First thing they do is raise the rates and you can't get out. I'm month to month on the lowest plan there is 100 hours per month, which is far far more than I need, but only $27 per month.
Once my current phone dies though I will have to go without because you can no longer get a regular phone these days and I won't even look at a fancy or smart phone.
To each their own though, that's just me.

If I use my cell phone for local calls I pay sixty cents a minute.
If I surf the net from Wi-Fi (in the periphery of my PC), it costs nothing (I'm already paying, @ home).

Me too I only use my cell phone (LG Chocolate right now) for emergency and meetings (roughly 5 minutes per month, max.).
It costs me $112 a year, and at the end of the year I got roughly $75-85 still left, as credits.

Mobile phone companies don't like it when their customers have accounts of over thousand dollars; they put a man on that. ...Or a woman.
In Canada we have the world's highest phone mobility rates. And it's a very lucrative business for Telus, Bell and Rogers.

I can tell you true stories that'll make you think about World War Three!

We live so much in unison with hi-tech that the value of humanity is totally lost! ...Just like that plane from Malaysia. ...In the Indian Ocean?

Yes, each one of us we have our own plan, and a job or two or three to do. ...Or none at all.

Nope, far cheaper than the US. I log about 5 minutes max per month on my cell phone with a plan that allows 100 minutes per month, no data or anything else runs me $335 per year!
Phone mobility rates are the highest in the US across the board as are Internet rates (by the way, that's for the slowest internet connections in the world) and everything else related to technology, hands down.

I thought that Canada had the highest mobile phone rates in the world.
...Mainly because we only have three major players; Telus, Rogers, and Bell.
And we certainly don't have the nice discounts you guys South of the border have on smartphones, tablets, laptops, etc.

By the way, today I got my Moto G (charging right now).

Also, I checked a bunch of laptops today; I'm starting to shop for a good one @ a good price (below $650) or so.
I think that's what I will get instead of a new computer. ...And I can use an HDMI cable to my 27" Samsung screen (thx to Mike).
I saw a nice Sony VAIO laptop today (Intel i5), optical drive, Windows 8, reasonable CPU processor, enough RAM (4 or 8), enough memory (1TB I think) for $500.

Also, I was checking Point-and-Shoot cameras (10-12X optical zoom, image stabilization, 16 MP, 1080P camcorder) for roughly $150-200.

I also saw an Ultra HDTV (4K) from Samsung (65") for five grands.

And I saw a bunch of exquisite looking girls all over.
