Had the chance to get to NYC with my wife the end of last week through Sunday. First trip since my last visit about 15 yrs ago.
What a treat you locals have there!
Tons of music to suit anyone's micro-genre. From exquisite free buskers playing violin, sax, and percussion under the central park pathway bridge arches to the Philharmonic you New Yorkers have access to alot of fantastic live music! We spent most of our visit wearing out the soles of our shoes walking the streets and exploring. One of the breaks was to listen to some great stereo gear.
Dropped in to see Gideon's Audioarts studio for a few hours on Friday. I have grown to know Gideon over the past few years from shows and a few of my own purchases from him but I have never had a chance to see his showroom. Lots of fun. Great soundproof large room overlooking the park and a second smaller room of more real world proportions for most living rooms. I'll post a few pics of some of the gear that was there when I dropped in. As a Nagra VPA user, I was particularly interested to hear the Stenheim 3way Alumine speakers and we switched up the amps midway from Audio Consulting (very good Swiss gear that was new to me) to Nagra's that I am more familiar with. Had some Johnny Hartman, Kraftwerk and James Brown on vinyl via a Simon Yorke S10 table sounding positively alive, driving and funky. In his larger room he had the Sperling on static display but the CH Precision C1/X1/A1 system with mid-line Zellaton speakers. If I could have bought the room and shipped it home, I would have. It is gorgeous and well set up. The Zellaton's threw a huge soundstage and are clear and detailed. Not sure about the price point of these as I was with my wife
Also dropped into Rebel Rebel record shop on Bleeker (can barely move in there but great finds if you care to dig) and In Living Stereo (lots of space but not as varied or eclectic) for a fix of vinyl on Sunday aft. Also popped my head into the Blue Note for some nostalgia!
Definitely caught the bug to get back to NYC soon.
