Way off topic - Vacuum Cleaners

Curious--Is anyone else finding Soniclean ads displaying at the top and sides of AudioShark? I am wondering if they keyed off of the site or because I did an internet search and looked at them on BB&B online.

Once you search, there are cookies that trigger the banner ads. If you delete all cookies, or selected ones from all sites you don't want them saved, it will go away. Until the next time you search for anything.

You can set your browser to delete all Temp IE files and Cookies every time you close out IE.

Or you can use an ad blocker browser add on. I do so with Google Chrome to avoid seeing any ads.

I need another Vacuum, good post!

Vacuums are an indispensable tool, and not only they can suck air, but they can blow some too.
...Very useful sometimes (inside your PC, as a hair dryer, leaves blower, for the keyboard, etc.). :)

A good quality vacuum is not a given to all, in particular for people living in jungles, and without electricity; unless Wi-Fi.

Is the Dyson any good?

I guess this is not thread derailing since the title was simply "vacuum cleaners" with no specific brand mentioned.

Why I like my Dyson Animal:
1. It is bag-less.

2. I was able to purchase a nice (but over-priced) soft brush that I use to clean my electronic and computer cases, keyboards, and screens.

End of reasons I like my Dyson.

Reasons I do not like my Dyson:
1. Over-hyped and over-priced.

2. It does not pick up that good. If I can see a fuzzy on the carpet and it has been stepped on frequently the Dyson will not pick it up until I change the angle of attack.

3. I do not think it fluffs the carpet very much.

4. No cord management. It all comes off at once and gets tangled. My canister had a retractable cord.

5. Power cord gets warm indicating it is insufficient gauge. Wish it had an IEC so I could upgrade.;)

6.Maybe there have been some changes since I purchased my Dyson many years ago but at that time some nice attachments were reserved for models dedicated to one store. e.g. I think only the model sold at Sears had the floor brush I wanted. It was not available for sale separately. I am talking about a simple brush, not the bare-floor head they offer.

7. Major complaint is that I always seem to be taking it apart to reconfigure it. None of the attachments can be used without morphing the machine.

8. An example of Dyson hype---suction hose can be stretched 18 feet. Well maybe it can but the useable distance is more like 4 feet. After that it is hard to pull and if you do not have a line backer on each end of the hose the Dyson will come flying at you like a freight train if it is on a bare floor. You can stretch a little farther on carpet but at 5' my arms get tired fighting the hose and there is a danger of tipping the machine. The hose does a great job of collapsing back to its original length which is a plus. Unfortunately it also makes it useable only at close range.

I will not buy any more Dyson products because, based on the vacuum I have, I can't believe Dyson hype.

funny, i bought a dyson for an old girlfriend who was dying to get one. $500 later, after a month she was back to using her old vacuum, when i asked why she said it didnt pick anything up. i used to use an irobot. cause im single and doing a good job vacuuming isnt on my priority list, but pressing a button and leaving was a big plus.but with my system now out in the main room, i had to stop with all the cables and speakers and stuff. i might pick one of these up. thx.

I have no objections to the thread going any way. Please post about ones you like or dislike, but consider the Soniclean if it meets your needs. It does fluff the carpets as I said earlier, even trampled down walkway areas in 20 y/o carpet and all fuzzies are gone with a single forward and back stroke.

Shadofax,

As Fox Muldar would say, "I want to believe". I am sorely tempted to buy one using my BB&B 20% off coupon. If it is as good as you say I would purchase another one for my 91year-old mother. Her ancient beasts are horrible. I live too far away (CA to OH) to do routine cleaning although I do a thorough cleaning once a year when I visit.

That is mighty nice of you, Dizzie.

Listen, BB&B has a very generous return policy. Order it at the store with coupon, they will ship it to your house for free. If you don't like it, take it back for a full refund.

Good luck!

What is the difference between the Soniclean VT Plus and the Galaxy models? (Besides $100)

I do not see the Galaxy on the Soniclean website but it is on Amazon. On Amazon the VT Plus has 19 reviews with 16 5-stars and 3 4-stars for a rating of 4.8. Heck, I don't even rate myself that high and I am almost perfect.

On the Soniclean website they only show the VT Plus both with and without the hand-held. The Galaxy on Amazon is a different color. It only has two reviews and they are very new.

5 Year warranty instead of 3 and it comes with a separate hand held unit and steamer. The VT Plus is just the plain vac with 3 year warranty.

Soniclean® | Clean the Unseen? | 60 Day Trial

The link I posted shows all 3. VT Plus on left, VT Plus Combo in middle and Galaxy on right in Black.

Looks like BB&B only sell the VT Plus, no combo, no Galaxy

Now I am not finding where you posted the link. This is where I found using a search. Soniclean® | Clean the Unseen? | 60 Day Trial

I edited this post. The price for bags at BB&B was my mistake. They were canister bags.

BB&B has bags cheaper than Amazon. $16.99 for 8 includes one filter and free shipping. $24.99 at Amazon.

Thats odd, the links look the same but show a different page.

Use that above and remove the quotes

My cleaner came with 8 bags and 8 pods in the box. I assume the bags will last me a few years. Funny tho, when my wife ordered it, the people at BB&B could not find anywhere that the bags were included so my wife shamed them into including an 8pack for free.

Brian, I have been fooled many times by audio forum members' recommendations for audio equipment. Bought or tried the equipment and thought it sucked big time. Well I hope the Soniclean sucks big time because I just ordered one. :exciting:

BB&Beyond $199.99 after 20% coupon. Free shipping. $16 tax

My excitement level is largely a reflection of how much I do not like my Dyson.

Thanks for your help. Your recommendation of the vacuum and advice on where to get cheap is much appreciated.

Don,

I hope I don't come out with egg on my face. Let us know if you also like it.
