Wanting some general opinions of my current Budget System.

Upgrade speaker wire. You lose signal and sound quality with small gauge wire. The longer the wire travels the more gauge you need for the resistance

Maybe a better surge protector for signal and power compression

Ok start Ill off with the equipment.

Receiver: Technics SA-EX410
Cd Changer: Technics SL-PD888
Turntable: Cheap Jensen stereo with cd/tape/radio/turntable/aux

Speakers:
Fisher D2 (2)
Technics SB-K915

I think ive spent a total of $285 for all of this, and it sounds really well for a budget system. But to be fair ive never heard an expensive audiophile system.
There is a picture of my speaker placement attached. I sit probably 6-7 feet away centered with the tv. Any suggestions to the placement, please speak up!.

The manual of the receiver claims it pushes 120wpc into 8ohms but i highly doubt it, it starts clipping a little over half volume, actually i had it more than that running just the K915s on some pretty heavy bass stuff just for fun to test the speakers and it started clipping so bad the voice coiles started frying a bit, i could smell them. Gave them a rest for a few days. haha maybe the speakers are demanding to much for the amp? I dont know exactly how clipping works.
Anyways criticize away, no general question here just bored and wanted to say hi!
P.S. This wasnt supposed to turn into a small novel.

I just finished reading your AVR manual. Are you using any of the room modes ? or the bass or treble knobs ? maybe to much adjustment on the bass knob could be over-driving a pair of speakers that is weak.

Have you checked to ensure all your speaker ( wires) are in correctly attached and the positive and negatives wires are on the correct AVR terminals, just asking...
A question: are all speakers connected to your AVR , I would assume since your AVR has a speaker A and B connection they are ( its either A or B but not both) Which pair of speakers are clipping ?

Not sure how big that room is Width Length Height but speakers need to breath.

Like others have noted, remove anything that is blocking ( infront and sides) your speakers ability to move air.

Your comment " i COULD smell them" indicates to me your old vintage speaker which ever one it is is nearing the end of its life. Remove the speakers ( pair) that is clipping.

Also, you could add a little subwoofer since your AVR does have a sub connection for an amplified subwoofer ( your AVR does not have a amp built within to power a non amplified sub) that would really give you assistance in the mid range and lower bass registers.

If I were you before I got into islotaing the CD player or adding power conditioning, get the sound you want from one pair of speakers then you can fine tune the system.

I didnt know it had room modes, thanks for thats. All speaker wires are properly connected.
I have added a sub before but it just didnt pair well with the 12's in the Technics floor speakers. Sound was way too boomy and bass heavy. The Technics were clipping. I dont have it up more that half way ever and half way is my max. Just to be safe. But to be fair, im sure running those 150w 3way Technics with another pair of 75w speakers is just making that AVR scream for mercy. I think a lot of this could be solved with a better amp, as in a power amp with a preamp setup.
I will be moving tomorrow so I will have to allow space for the speakers to breathe and make them the center of the room this time instead of the TV! Haha 😄
