Want to improve your analog (vinyl) sound?

Don't worry about it Nelson, I hear what your saying and I am not taking it in a bad way. I am or was happy with what I have and aware of what it took for me to get there. However, I also recall that I was more comfortable without some of it. So I made the decision to "simplify" (if that's the word I'm looking for) and put away that which was making things more difficult than they needed to be in accordance with my goal(s). My goal is the music, not the gear. For me, I'm a mid-fi guy, not a high-end guy because my goal is the music. I care about sound reproduction unfortunately because if experience, but I also can not afford to care down to the microscopic levels or to pursue the ultimate in sound with certain things. So since it takes a lot more work and money I'll never have to achieve even the rudimentary sound in vinyl analog, I've decided to just have the music in the format I already have all the necessary things to make it sound good. It's called practical and simple. I have stronger roots in CD than vinyl I guess, because people tell me with the same frequency that I need this DAC or that thing for my CDs, but I just don't listen because I know that I do not need them. With vinyl, one is always questioning what's going on and it's such a high maintenance thing that one often times never gets around to the music. So I choose to walk away from it. The other part of the story is that I am just not a high-end guy. I'm not comfortable with it and never will be. It's not in my DNA.

...Or your bank account. ;)

I have only a couple of pieces that can be considered high-end or entry level high-end and that's more than enough for me.
I was chatted into joining this site (which is a good site, make no mistake about it), but was very hesitant because of the high-end mission statement. I can't speak the language and am having great difficulty learning it. So I figure if I simplify and focus on one main medium in my life (CDs) I might have an easier time of it. More importantly, if I just focus on the music making it both the goal and the means to an ends, that makes it even easier. Granted, it's not much of a talking point, but that's ok. I'll just talk about gear with folks here when I have a problem with one of my pieces or am in the market for a piece to replace what dies. (For example, I'm saving for a new amp/receiver and when I get close enough I'll want to ask here). ~Eric

Yes, the Marantz CDP that Joe gave me is the biggest boost to my whole system next to the Paradigms as far as I'm concerned. That's why I'm going back to the convenience of CDs exclusively, so I can play music again and that Marantz brings out detail for the Paradigms to amuse themselves with and to wow me with! I'm always amazed when I put a CD in how much detail I missed with my old player! I have not popped a CD in it for 1.5 months! I have not heard music in that long either! All I've been doing is listening for anomalies in records or futzing with analog gear. Well, now it's back to the music and music only without the muss and fuss....much better. I wish I had the ability to demo gear like most others here do, but we mid-fi folk just don't have access to that. However, on the other hand, maybe it's good that we don't....if you get my drift. Maybe in audio world ignorance really is bliss...at least for one's bank account.:)

Look, I'm mainly a digital man in the year 2013. But I love analog, and the why I started this thread.
I am totally fascinated with all the manual rituals, the passion of nostalgia, the euphony, the beautiful TT designs, the sophisticated tonearms, the complexities and minute details of a state-of-the-art cartridge, the right combination of everything in the chain including the phono preamp stage with its RIAA curves, the RCMs, and again the gorgeous looking turntables out there. And I don't care much at all (just a bit) about that ultra modern, ultra solid using the most high tech (and not cheap) materials, and sophisticated $650,000 German turntable with digital readout and digital setup parameters.

I simply want to share what I learned over the course of my musical journey among the knowledge I gathered and exchanges I had with some of the most amazing analog audio people from all across the earth.

Am I rich? You bet I am!

I too enjoyed analog and the ritual, nostalgia having grown up with it and even cleaning and such, but then it got out of control and I found myself no longer listening to music. That to me, is a shot across my bow that something is terribly wrong. The one thing I never want to lose is my connection and passion for music! So I had to jump the analog/vinyl ship and go back to digital so I could listen to music again. That's all, nothing against the analog vinyl thing in itself at all, it's beautiful, but I also think it's best left to those who have the means to handle it. I just didn't have some of the means and found myself drowning and going down for the third time. This also shows how fortunate we are to have digital available to us as well to keep the music going for most everyone.
