Wanbo X7 Pro Max Review
Spent quite a bit of time testing the Wanbo X7 Pro Max and comparing it against alternatives from XGIMI, JMGO, Dangbei and ETOE, I've come away quite impressed with this projector.
The X7 Pro Max doesn't try to be a premium home theatre projector, nor is it trying to compete with projectors x10 its price. It retails for $400 - $499 USD.
It delivers what most people actually want at its price point: good brightness, solid image quality, built-in streaming apps, decent audio and a hassle-free user experience.

First Impressions
How refined the X7 Pro Max seems compared to many budget projectors.
Design is clean, doesn’t look cheap. Blends nicely into a living room and feels more premium than its price tag. Integrated stand is also a nice touch, makes setup and positioning easier than having to prop the projector up on books/stands. Note that the tilt maxes out at 15-degree angle.
I appreciate its design choices, the removable dust filters. Dust is one of the biggest downfall of LCD projectors. Wanbo having it is reassuring.
Chassis uses dark matte plastic with subtle gold accents around the lens and body, though the glossy front panel is a total fingerprint magnet.
Brightness
Brightness is one of the best features.
1500 ANSI lumens, X7 Pro Max is noticeably brighter than many competitors at this price point. No projector really replaces a television for daytime viewing in a bright room, the X7 Pro Max does quite well with moderate ambient light.
For evening sports, movies and general use, brightness was never a worry for me. The image stays vibrant/engaging.
Direct sunlight will still wash out the image, but that's true for most projectors in this category.
Picture Quality
Picture quality is where the X7 Pro Max starts to feel like more than just another budget projector.
Vibrant colours without being oversaturated. Skin tones are natural, animated content looks great and overall image quality strikes a good balance between accuracy and visual impact.
Native 1080p resolution still holds up well at normal viewing distances. It isn't native 4K, if you're sitting close to a massive screen you'll notice the difference. For movies, streaming and general viewing, sharpness is very good.
One thing I did notice is that centre sharpness seemed stronger than edge sharpness. The centre of the image looks excellent, while the outer corners can appear slightly softer. Wasn't too particularly distracting, but it's worth mentioning.

Movies and Streaming
X7 Pro Max really shines in movies
A 100 to 120-inch image creates an experience that feels more cinematic than even very large televisions.
Combination of good brightness, respectable contrast and a large screen size makes movies feel immersive in a way that most TVs can't replicate.
Google TV is a major plus. Unlike many budget projectors that rely on slow software, this feels polished. Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video, YouTube and other major streaming platforms work, no need for external streaming device.
Menus are responsive, navigation is straightforward. The experience feels much closer to a mainstream smart TV than a typical projector.
The remote keeps it simple with a clean layout and responsive Google Assistant integration, you aren’t forced to dig through endless submenus just to tweak settings
Note that the remote is not backlit.
Sports and Gaming
Great for sports too.
Football, Formula 1 or cricket on a 120-inch screen feels different. The screen size adds a sense of immersion that TV won’t offer.
Motion Estimation, Motion Compensation (MEMC) processing helps smooth fast-moving content and can be useful for live sports, although whether you leave it enabled is up to you.
Gaming performance is also quite good.
For single-player games, driving games, sports titles and most console gaming, the experience is excellent. The sheer screen size makes games feel larger and more immersive.
Competitive gamers should go for something with lower input lag. For casual gaming, the projector performs more than well enough.
Audio Quality
Built-in projector speakers are usually horribad. The X7 Pro Max is surprisingly good.
Dialogues are clear, voices sound natural and there's enough volume to fill a medium-sized room.
No, it isn't replacing a dedicated soundbar or surround sound setup.
Unlike many projectors where external speakers feel like a must. I was perfectly satisfied using the built-in speakers for everyday viewing.
This is a plus for me.
Fan noise is audible (~31dB). it’s not completely silent. Once you start playing sound, the cooling fan fades into the background without turning your living room into a wind tunnel.

Setup Experience
The automatic setup features deserve mention.
· Auto focus.
· Auto keystone correction.
· Auto screen fit.
· Obstacle avoidance.
Rather than spending ten minutes adjusting the image every time you move the projector, you can put it down and let the system do most of the work. Simple and easy.

What I Like Most
How complete the overall package feels.
Many projectors excel in one area and disappoint in another.
Some have excellent picture quality but terrible software.
Others have good brightness but poor audio.
The X7 Pro Max feels balanced.
Nothing is revolutionary, but almost everything works well. Just turn it on and you enjoy your content.
I spend less time adjusting settings and more time watching movies, which is ultimately what most people want.
Things That Could Be Better
X7 Pro Max isn't perfect.
A few areas could still be improved:
- It is 1080p, native 4K would be nice, unrealistic at this price.
- Edge sharpness isn't as strong as centre sharpness.
- Autofocus can occasionally be a little too eager.
- Bright daytime viewing still benefits from curtains or blinds.
- Aimed at casual gamers, competitive gamers looking for lower input lag should be careful.
Final Verdict
Wanbo X7 Pro Max feels like one of the most complete projectors currently available in its price range.
Strong brightness, good image quality, excellent smart TV integration, capable audio and useful automatic setup features combine to create a projector that's easy to live with and enjoyable to use.
It's not trying to be a high-end home theatre projector, and that's perfectly fine.
It focuses on delivering a great overall experience for everyday users, in that sense, it succeeds.
Would I recommend it? Absolutely.
If you're looking for a projector around this price point and want a balance of picture quality, convenience and value, the Wanbo X7 Pro Max deserves your consideration.
Overall Score: 7.5/10
