VPI Titan has landed

Very nice Mike! Glad you were able to finally setup the Titan. Let me know when you are ready for an auditioning session!

It did. I've been busy, so I did it kind of peace meal. Plus, the cables just arrived this week.

Way too early. I had a quick listen last night. Two of the three arms are perfect. The arm with the transfiguration has too high VTA, but its adjusted all the way down. Argh. Frustrating. Will post pics later.

Put a small spacer between the cartridge and the arm. Not ideal, but better than VTA being off (to high in this case)...
Cheers....

Thanks. I did that this morning, just haven't had time to test and measure. I did try some modest sizes spacers and it wasn't enough. Went to a bigger size and I THINK it will work.

The rim drive is...uhhh...well....creating noise. I've asked for a good old belt drive in exchange.

Got Away from Rim drive many moons ago because they were noisy, amazing the rah rah they bring today...

Is the rim drive unit making noise, or is it causing noise by vibrating your platform? If the former, I assume from one of the two motors?

To clarify, the RIM drive itself is not noisy. What's happening is feedback beyond a certain volume level. I can still listen fine at moderate levels, but you do "hear" the RIM drive via resonances. Remember, horn speakers amplify everything 10 fold. Once you get past a certain volume level, then you get runaway feedback (low rumble growl). I believe what is happening is that the bass is creating resonances which are picked up by the RIM drive and then passed through to the table --> arm --> cart --> repeat.

If I didn't have a sub floor (and a better rack perhaps), then I suspect most of the issues would be resolved.

However, I think in my case, a belt drive would be better.
