Hi all,

I chanced upon a pair of 5 year old VR-44 Aktive for sale at a very reasonable price from a VSA dealer in the Far East.

I was hoping if someone here could shed some light on the VR-44s. Thanks.

Hi Bob.... I own the Von Schweikert VR-5 Anniversary MK II speakers and think they are spectacular. They bested every speaker I’ve listened to anywhere near their price range. I would have to think that the VR-44 Aktive would edge out my VR-5 Annies....so I say Go For It.

I did realise there is a huge slash in pricing on used VR44 too.

Here's a true story for you. I lived in a far away country at the time & always used the same dealer who I trusted emphatically. he rang me one day & said would I like to buy some Von Schweikerts, I was keen at the start & just before I dropped the money on them I asked him if he'd buy them back on trade for 2/3's of what I paid him , as in a serious discount. He said no in a 10 minute explanation....

I can relate to that as it happened to me before and dropped several dealers like that. Some audio dealers are not to happy taking away our used audio equipment as can be difficult to sell especially a tough-sell make. I live in the Far East and easy sale makes are Wilsons, Audio Research or Sonus Faber, Mark Levinsons that have huge following.

It all depends on the product being traded and the deal. I chuckle when I get the guy who calls and says, “I have a Yamaha receiver from the 90’s, a Sony CD player from 2006, a pair of Boston Acoustics, a salamander rack and some
Monster cables. How about I trade all that towards a pass amp?” LOL, No thanks.

I’ll tell you, so many things we’ve taken on trade, I think, this will sell fast and then it sits for months or years like the Soulution 711 amp we had or things that we take on trade, I think “Christ, that will sit for months” and it’s gone in 3 days. There just doesn’t seem to be any rhyme or reason.

But Kev, Penthouse-D and others, with respect to your stories and VS, to be honest, I had no idea. Never came across them on a trade or anything. Good to know.
