Received my Vivaldi DAC back this afternoon after having sent it out a week ago for the APEX update. Once I received the call to drop it at my dealer last Tuesday the turnaround was pretty quick considering the shipping back and forth.

Once I fired it up after reconnecting all the cables I can say my initial reaction is very positive. If there are additional improvements after some burm-in all I can say is WOW.

Congrats Jim! Can you describe the sonic improvements you are hearing? I have not listened to the Apex upgrade yet but I have been hearing quite a bit of positive feedback regarding it.

I was only able to listen for about 90 minutes. First thing I noticed was fuller low end sound. Second it seems like instruments are separated more. A better defined soundstage.

More to come next week.

Great news Jim! Look forward to further impressions as the updated Vivaldi settles back in the system.

Hi Jim,

It sounds like you’re hearing some significant improvements. I’ll have to check out the new Apex the next time I’m near the dealer, which should be in October.

Enjoy,
Ken

I am a UK-based dCS Vivaldi full-stack owner and have had my Apex-upgraded Vivaldi DAC back in the system for just over three weeks.

I have about 100 hours on the clock now and can report that it does get better with burn-in!

Initial reactions support the OP - I felt that the bass had greater power and authority and also that it was louder! I had to adjust the volume on my D'Agostino Momentum HD pre from my normal listening level of 12 o'clock, back to 11 o'clock! Fine detail is highlighted, without sounding etched and the music just has more presence and momentum (excuse the pun). Further burn-in adds to the smoothness of the delivered sound, which sounds more relaxed and real - less hifi!
