Viola Audiolabs

At the risk of also becoming unpopular in this thread, it is my opinion, it makes no sense to compare Magico and Rockport, since they are designed with two entirely different philosophies about sound.

Can anyone explain to me, why Raidho get so much attention? :skeptical:

They're more similar than you'd think. The material on the drivers are very similar.
Rockport uses ports, like 99% of the speakers out there, while Magico uses sealed enclosures. So, the main difference between them is the bass. Rockport = fuller, with lots of overhang. Magico = correct bass, you can hear note for note, no overhang whatsoever.

Thanks Alexandre. That's a great explanation.

It is also almost the only direct similarity I see. In what other areas do you think they compare in design or in terms of sound philosophy?

Well, if you want to be strict about it, then Magicos don't sound like anything else, simply because of their enclosure and sealed design.

The impression I got from Rockport is that they're transparent, like Magicos, but with fuller bass, due to the port design. I assume the transparency is due to the driver choice (similar to Magico), and the full bass is due to the big woofers and a port.

Friends,

recently I started some tests with Gryphon cables, VIP line. Installed a pair of interconnects between the Esoteric K-03 and AR LS27 preamp, and a pair of speaker cables. My speakers is Dynaudio 25th Special Edition.

I realized that the system was very analytical and transparent. High and medium frequencies according to the volume, even disturbing.

I have this setup two weeks ago, and the cables had one year of use, but were saved there are 5 or 6 months. Does it need more time to settle down cables these high frequencies?

Someone could help me?

Have a great week,
Ricardo Nonato.

Ricardo - do you have any room treatments at your first and second reflection points?

Mike,

This room does not have treatments at the points you mentioned, this is a temporary room, I'm building another house with my final room.

My current room measures 4.5 m x 5.5 m.

ps.: Complementing ... the wall behind the boxes, has a huge curtain, and also have a mat that will my listening position to the boxes.

What happened to the Viola Audio Laboratories brand?? Their website is down for over a year now and the phone is also dead. Is there anybody in the US who can give some information? I use 2 Fortes I like very much.

Haven’t heard a peep from them in years. I remember making a post that I thought they were gone and they came back arguing they weren’t. Seemed inevitable.

A shame really good stuff , hard for these small companies to survive after the designer dies ..!

Thanks for the confirmation of the Viola class. Apart from the Fortes I still use the Cello Audio Suite including all Viola updates for almost 40 years now without hick-ups. Also great stuff indeed. I still can''t believe this has evaporated without any trace. I cherish an email from the company (Paul Jayson) who wrote in September 2023: "The Forte amplifiers should last a lifetime. The main filter capacitors may have to be changed at some point".

That Forte name bring back many memories , as their was an Audire model Forte amplifier that was very highly rated in the 80’s , full dual channel platform down to individual power switches for each channel , great powering Acoustats ..!

Regards

If we are on memory lane: who still uses Cello gear? I know that (15 years ago) in Hong Kong these amps were in very high demand. Prices exceeded the new price.. Is this still the case?
