I know when I replaced a generic USB with my AQ Diamond the improvement was huge. It boggles the mind that any difference is there. I had a chance to play with a couple others over this weekend some in a friend's system and in mine.

My friend uses a cable made for him someone but the person must know what they are doing, the cable was better than my AQ. Better, could be a matter of taste as the two had different presentations. The AQ has a more delicate or softer sound, the other one had more bottom end and instruments sounded more substantial or solid, also more dynamic, I hate to use aggressive,, it just gave more of a lively presentation. I think the AQ may have better noise rejection, blacker background, quieter.

Some observations on digital listening I wonder if anyone else notices or agrees. First, better digital cables or even higher resolution files, in general, have better bass. An improvement in the digital playback yields a better bass response. Something I hear in the USB, better cables you should hear better PRAT, meaning the music will have more of what allows you to hear the melody, more coherency. You don't really notice an issue until the better cable is in, then the music just sounds more right, maybe some timing thing but the sound just swings more.

This is why I feel each person has to experiment for themselves. These things for the most part will not slap you in the head, you have to be able to listen to the music. I mean it's not just better bass or treble, you need to hear the flow of the notes, sense whether there's a better sense of melody, timing, whatever. Many aspects, at least for me, I can't describe, and trying sometimes people may comprehend something different from what I write. On the other hand going from generic to the AQ anyone should have been able to easily hear that improvement.

We also played with a Final Touch Audio USB. This one was not impressing out of the package, not bad just some closed up, like parts of the song was missing or recessed. However, as time went by through the day this cable was beginning to sound amazing. I am afraid to put this cable in my system, I'm not wanting to spend that for a USB cable. I understand you can spend much more than even it's cost if one wished. the cable was very transparent, large, very large sound stage and instruments were more 3D like.

I found the experience interesting and had to put my thoughts down.

A revision, I am back to using the AQ Diamond. The other cable sounds like it magnifies images, sound stage comes closer and notes larger, however, I noticed in continuing to compare that "magnifying" effect also took some of the space between notes out, I wouldn't really call it smearing, info remains clear and more solid but the space the AQ provides is some more musical in the long run. My friend's room is larger and this difference didn't seem to make that big of a deal but in my room I'm thinking I prefer the presentation of the AQ.
The unnamed cable I can see how it impresses at first, the magnifying thing, then it also seems to have some extra energy in upper midrange, I think, the region that would really make the snare pop. It's a fun listen but I prefer the best detail. Well.... I guess in my scenario it depends on what you'd call, detail. LOL

If someone is good with spending $1500 for a USB the Final Touch Audio is an entire other level from the AQ Diamond which has firmly planted itself as a great performer in it's class. In disclosure that's the first USB I've heard in that price, not sure if money buys that much improvement or not generally.

I did compare sometime back the AQ to the Clarus which each are about the same price, I preferred the AQ.

I moved from AQ Carbon to the short Curious USB to the Sablon Audio Evo USB, with improvement noted at each step; quite a large one moving to Sablon but it came with a price "penalty."

WRT your comment about bass being "better" with 24bit recordings, there is a good technical explanation for this (although I don't have reference links handy), so it is likely not just a subjective impression.
