Since I bought the classic 1, I've been real happy with it. The straight out of the box performance is better than my Aries 1 was. But it's time to add a little something to it.
*I'm going to add the TNT mini feet. Which I used on my Aries and are better and sturdier than the classic feet.
*im going to buy the ring clamp and Centerweight
*im going to upgrade the arm and junction box to the Valhalla wired ones. I'm waiting on this because I might just buy a 3d printer arm tube, which fits on the jmw base.
* think I also want to add another cartridge to the new arm. But that is another story.

I think these upgrades will give me a nice jump in performance.
To trade this in on a classic 3 would be like $4k.
To get all this done would be 1/2 the price
When I bought this table my "dealer" led me to believe this could be upgraded to a classic 3 . I found out this is not the case. That's why I no longer use this dealer. He was selling me because the classic 1 was the only table he had in stock.

Steve, I think that's a good plan. I'll tell you something I learned, the Classic one TT is more than worthy of the upgrades you mentioned. The Lyra Kleos I bought was an impressive upgrade, the table was more than capable of showing what the Kleos was adding. Let me know how it goes !!

Yes I've been going back and fourth on upgrading it or trading up.
The cartridge I'm running is real nice and I'm sure selling the classic 1
With the cadenza blue would make someone real happy to own.
So maybe ill list it here for about $2400 see if anyone is interested before I go to agon with it.
Buy a classic 3 and then Join the lyra club here.
Then I think I'm selling my beloved hovland. So I can get a steelhead and go balanced from the classic 3 all the way to the snappers.
Then I'm going to sell the kefs for like a g. And buy those studio 2's.
I change my mind like the wind changes direction. But I have help from a few of you guys along the way.

Don't feel bad..I have been in that boat..upgrade parts or just go new table...something to be said for both...BUt I know what its like to vacillate ...LOL

If it were me, I would go for the Classic 3. why ? Upgrade parts and now you have a custom unit, a bit harder to sell...and potentials for things to not give you the synergy you seek. You get the 3 and you have a perfectly matched unit...however; maybe the customer would be better...see - I go back and forth too....

rob I like your thinking lol. !!!!!!!

And yes your right joe. Don't know why I thought the steelhead was balanced.
Too bad I'm dying to use these balanced inputs on the snappers.
Several reviews say its better.

Good advice Rob, I thought Steve was planning to keep his Classic 1, If not, then I would definitely sell it and get the Classic 3. Steve, if it makes you feel better,I plan on selling my Classic in the future and get the 3 also. I think it's a great table. I'm waiting awhile to see how the 3d arm is going to work out.

I've looked into the 3d arm. There is no price on the vpi website for just the armtube yet
I'd buy the 3 with the straight jmw arm. Then I wanted to add a cartridge and buy the 3d arm for that. My original plan was to buy a Merrill Williams REAL table and keep the classic 1 stock.
Honestly several people told me that would kill any classic. But I've always been a vpi guy, so I'm going to stick with it
But if I go for the classic 3 i may just buy like 3 arms. Run , mc, mm , and a mono
Cartridges. Really want a mm in the mix my grado statement was an awesome cartridge .

In my experience, the ring and clamp combo made a bigger difference than even the SDS unit. Even if you do nothing else right now, I recommend that upgrade.

Thanks but I thi k I'm selling it and just getting the 3. Then I don't have to worry anymore. :panic:
Btw Anthony I'd pm you but you can't write back yet. How you liking the slp05??? I almost bought one but I chose the hovland because of the phonostage. I loved that preamp it's really great value for the money especially used.

I love the Cary SLP-05. Of all the components in my system, it most likely will be the last thing I replace. All the hype is justified. If you are in the market and find one for a good price, I highly recommend getting it.
